At the end of Day 2 on the Hump Ridge Track, there’s a great loop at the top aptly named the Loop Track, offering 360-degree views of Fiordland. Drop your pack at the track intersection before walking a little further to enjoy the panoramic vistas. Afterward, head back to Okaka Lodge for the night. It’s a perfect spot to revisit after dinner to watch the sunset!

Heaphy Track: 6 Days, starting from Nelson or Motueka return.

Follow in the footsteps of ancient Māori on this iconic 82-kilometre journey from Golden Bay to the West Coast, one of New Zealand’s famous 'Great Walks.' The trail leads you through lush beech forests and into expansive tussock lands with stunning red tussocks, where you’ll feel like you’ve stepped into a fantasy film.

As you descend toward the rugged coastline, you’ll pass towering rata trees, cross broad rivers via bridges, and arrive at wild beaches fringed with nīkau palms. The constantly changing scenery - limestone cliffs, caves, and windswept forests - offers breathtaking views of mountains that surround you on all sides, fully immersing you in nature.

End each day in simple yet cozy huts, giving you a true taste of the authentic 'kiwi tramping experience'.

Always a great weekend, when we hold our annual guide training at the Boyle Outdoor Education Centre. A big thanks to Martin Leslie and Ali Holley for the expert facilitation and instruction. Over the course of the weekend, we practice outdoor first aid through scenario-based training, we generally have some great actors in our team that do a great job of making these scenarios more realistic! A great opportunity for our guides to meet and socialise too as during the season it’s often just a fleeting moment on the road or trail that they get to see one another. Thanks also to the Boyle Outdoor Education Centre for the use of your fantastic facility, and a big thank you to our guides for all your energy and engagement over the weekend. ^Dan

We were blown away by the sunset during our stay at Mt Heale Hut on the Aotea Track, Great Barrier Island, earlier this year. The hut’s balcony offers stunning views stretching out towards Hauturu/Little Barrier Island. For those keen on even more breathtaking vistas, we highly recommend the short hike from the hut to the summit of Hirakimata/Mt Hobson, where you’ll be rewarded with 360° panoramic views.

Hirakimata is a haven for rare birdlife, including kākā, kākāriki, tomtit/miromiro, black petrel/tāiko, and the recently reintroduced North Island robin/pītoitoi. The area is also home to unique plant species such as the Great Barrier tree daisy and the sundews. There are wooden steps near the summit that help protect the black petrel nesting sites and the surrounding ecosystems.

And we're off.... đŸ„Ÿ

Our first guided hike of the season has officially departed from Auckland! It's an early start this year, and while it’s not quite summer yet, we’re feeling the excitement build for the adventures ahead.

Here's to another summer of exploring Aotearoa's incredible landscapes with our hikers.

📍 Snapped this view of Waitematā Harbour as we headed out to Devonport to walk to the top of Takarunga / Mount Victoria. Takarunga was once a pā (Māori fortified village) and today, it's a popular spot for locals and tourists to take a leisurely walk, picnic, or simply enjoy the views. Great spot for sunset!

It’s difficult to adequately describe the intrinsic joy of staying in a hut. It’s a privilege, a delight and a singular experience. Our backcountry huts are a quintessentially Kiwi symbol of egalitarianism. It doesn’t matter who you are, or where you’re from, huts are more than just shelter, they’re are social hubs, life-saving refuges, an escape from civilization or an adventure for families and friends, a place where people from all walks of like share space, time, stories and cups of tea....read our blog

It’s Te Wiki o te Reo Māori - Māori Language Week. This year’s theme is: “Ake ake ake – A Forever Language”, symbolising the strength, adaptability, and perseverance of our language and highlighting the dedication to embracing te reo Māori for generations to come.

Te reo Māori is the indigenous language of Aotearoa New Zealand and is one of our official languages.

Check out our slides for some useful te reo Māori words you can use while out on a hīkoi (walk). Give it a go next time you’re out there!
