Tells the story of the rugged South Coast of New Zealand. Your time travel voyage begins on the deck of a wooden ship, with a movie screen unfurling from amongst the rolled-up sails. After your senses have been immersed in the natural splendour of the coast and its re-created

This area within the Museum displays artwork representative of the Riverton area as well as showcasing various themed Exhibitions through the year. The Gallery is also used by Guest speakers sharing their knowledge and expertise on our Local and National history. You are always welcome to attend these interesting and insightful talks. A wonderful interactive science area for kids of all ages. The aim of this room is to get kids interested in science. Explore the drawers full with rocks, fossils and stones or look at them under the microscope. You'll be fascinated by the display of live weta and there is plenty more to see! Information Centre
Our friendly Staff and Volunteers are happy to assist you with all of your enquiries whether it be about the Catlins, Fiordland, Stewart Island or many other destinations in beautiful Southland. They will even book your trips and accommodation. Souvenir Shop
