Have you seen the awesome work that has been done on digitising our collection and sharing it online? Well, it has come time to see just how much you value this…
We have annual subscription fees in order to use www.ehive.com as a platform to share our collection with the world, and to date we have been able to secure a grant to cover this cost, but the grant was a one off. We have just reached a point where we need to upgrade to the next level in order to keep sharing more of our collection with you in this way – we need to raise a further NZD$5,282 in order to secure our platinum level subscription for the next 5 years. Can you make a donation? You can currently view 7980 of our collection items online, but with your help, we have more than 1,000 more objects that our team of hard working volunteers can add over the next year - if we can upgrade our plan. If you are in a position to be able to donate, please make a deposit direct to our bank account, details are below:
Donations can be made to our ANZ bank account, please put ‘eHive’ in reference.

Thanks to all the volunteers out there. An especially big thank you to our volunteers at Te Hikoi - today this crew were all so busy researching and digitising photos to share with you online, that they had "no time for photos" of themselves, so enjoy looking at the backs of heads instead of their smiling faces!

Aside from being one of the country’s best small museums, we have a fantastic retail space, and we provide visitor information 7 days a week, which presents local tourism operators with some opportunities:
If you provide visitor accommodation (AirBnb, Bed and Breakfast) we are happy to add you to our local accommodation folder. Simply provide us with an A4 sheet about your space (and photos if possible). In addition if you have a brochure we can provide you a space to display it on our visitor information wall at $90+GST per annum.
A shout out to our local eateries, we are always being asked where to eat in Riverton. If you change your menu or opening hours please let us know. Likewise, we have a folder on where to eat, and if you supply us with a copy of your menu we can pop it in the folder.

The final star within the Matariki star cluster is Matariki herself, who is the mother to the other eight stars. Matariki is the star that represents the wellbeing of all people, and she welcomes the new year when she rises in our morning skies during winter.
16/06/2024
The star of Ururangi is connected to the winds, and together with Waipunarangi they are connected to the weather that sculps our environment here on Earth.
14/06/2024
The star of Waitā is connected to all of the food sources that come from our oceans. This karakia affirms our connection to the sea and all of the bountry that it provides for us, especially here in Aotearoa New Zealand. This star is directly associated with Waitī, which is connected to food from fresh water.
14/06/2024
Not just your local Museum - we have a great selection of gifts.
Open 7 days 10am until 4pm
11/06/2024
Within the Matariki star cluster, four stars are connected to our association with food and where our food sources come from. The star of Tipuānuku is connected to kai that come from the ground, like vegetables and kumara. When we observe this star, we acknowledge all of the food that the Earth provides for us to sustain ourselves and share with friends and whānau. This karakia can be used to give thanks to the star of Tipuānuku and all that it provides for us.

With just a few weeks left until the celebration of Matariki begins, we'll be sharing more about this special star cluster as the new year approaches.
The star of Pōhutukawa is connected to those who have passed in the year that has been, and we send off the names of our loved ones to this star in the morning sky as it rises before the Sun.
This karakia can be used to acknowledge our loved ones who have passed away as we remember them and look forward.

A wee while ago we had a lovely visit from a few kautmātua from Ōraka Aparima Rūnaka, who spent some time reconnecting with some of the pounamu in the collection, giving photographer Rob Suisted the opportunity to capture an image for Nic Low's article about the 'Lost Tribes' recently published in NZ Geographic. Here's a link to the article, and a short video we captured on the day. https://www.nzgeo.com/stories/the-lost-tribe-of-fiordland/
