The perfect beginner trail! Here, I am chasing the king of stoke, Bare Kiwi down this Rotorua Classic on his first time on an eMTB.

Perfect for kids of all ages and bikes of all shapes and sizes! It has just had a recent facelift and is as good as ever with a beautiful trail surface and flowy corners, rollers and a couple of nice table tops!

Running mint all the way to the end!

I remember when this was first built back in 2014 and grinning the whole way down. It was sad when the lower part was logged, but then it was rebuilt as fun as ever.

We all know that Whakarewarewa Forest is a working forest. The pines get planted to be logged. Their cycle is about 25 years. It means that it is always evolving along with the sport. One of the next blocks to go is the one containing Eagle vs Shark - but not until the end of summer, at least.

Get to Rotorua and ride this beaut before the trees are harvested and the new version is put in its place. Stoked that there is such a good relationship between the land owners, forestry management, and recreational users. It allows us to continue to ride even when there are major works going on! Oh and that we have over 100 trails to choose from to keep us going always.

Where will your bike take you next?

Travelling with your bike can be daunting but you’ll never regret it!

On a recent trip to Pakistan, we took our with us to the remote northern region to explore the potential for riding.

The riding was hard, the locals were super accommodating, and the scenery was spectacular 😍

Preparing for a trip is one of the best parts. The motivation to reach your goals to build fitness, skills and knowledge of an area is an exciting part of the journey.

Stoked to see the 6th annual Enduro with 143 riders. That’s HUGE!!

It’s been an honour to support the Mud Maidens since they started and watch the crew grow and see them out growing the sport 👏👏

From twerking at drops clinics to building a sick trail for the community, these ladies are all about the good times. I hope to keep supporting them while they host kick ass events out there having a good time on the trails 🫶
Congratulations to Bronwyn as the spot prize winner and to all the riders who were a part of the event. We will be giving away another lesson voucher to another deserving Maiden so watch this space.

📢We are coming into harvest season 📢

Please remember that Whakarewarewa Forest is private land and is a commercial forest as well as the communities playground. We are very fortunate to have continued access to the majority of the forest during forestry operations.
Follow and respect all signage and the staff’s instructions, they are there to ensure riders don’t accidentally end up on extremely hazardous worksites.
The majority of the trails are unaffected but the roads will be a lot busier. Please take this into consideration when planning your ride 👍

A message from timberlands:

Timberlands are commencing clear-fell harvest in HA6162 starting 4 November 2024, as per the attached map. Operational hours will be between 5:00am to 4:00pm, Monday to Friday.

The harvest is scheduled to take 12-weeks. The contractors will endeavour to open access to the trails for evenings and weekends during the operation, however there may be situations where the trails/roads need to remain closed outside of operational hours.

Traffic/trail control will be in place as required. This operation will impact mountain biking trails and trail access using Moerangi Road & Bush Road.

Trails and roads affected include:

MTB – Tūhoto Ariki – Time Warp – Te Ahi Manawa – Kung Fu Walrus

Roads – Moerangi Road – Bush Road – Loop Road

A further update regarding the trucking route and hours will be communicated shortly.

Timberlands requests that forest users please use caution in the area, obey all signage, instructions, restrictions, and respect traffic control staff – they are there for your safety.

Couldn’t think of a more epic rig for a trip like this 💪

The katipō has been reliable and a ton of fun over in Pakistan and the only love it got was the occasional wipe down of the suspension to stay clean.

Now that it’s a couple of years old maybe it’s time to plan a new build for the next adventure 🤔 What should it have on it?

Nothing about this trip to Pakistan has been easy. Trying to organize an itinerary in an area that there has historically been no mountain biking was a challenge. Reading maps where there are game trails and shepherds trails that just fade to nothing, traffic jams, overly optimistic team members and running out of light. It’s been great to have such a good team onboard.

Taking the leap into the unknown.
Traveling with your bike is an amazing way to see the world. There can be a lot of “what ifs” but the pay off in experience is unbeatable.
To remember what it’s like to plan a trip into the unknown, a few mates and I planned a trip that none of us had done before. We took mountain bikes to Northern Pakistan. The experience is unreal!

Meeting the locals 👋

From high pastures with glaciers looming above through remote villages down to the Karakoram Highway in the Hunza Valley.

Today was super fun looking for fun trail to ride while exploring the Gappa Valley on my Katipō 👌

We have another big mission on the cards for tomorrow, heading up to the base camp for Rakaposhi (7788m).
