Tairua Ferry Services provides a convenient, quick way to access Tairua from Pauanui. Runs school holidays in Winter & from December through to April.

Bell Air is a catamaran licensed to transport 50 passengers within the Tairua Harbour area, including the Pauanui Waterways. Outside our normal timetable, the ferry can be chartered for harbour cruises and waterways tours.

Kia ora everyone, the summer season has now finished and our next period of operation will be King's Birthday Weekend, 1, 2 and 3 June 2024. Timetable will be hourly ex Tairua Wharf between 10.00am and 4.00pm, arriving Pauanui Wharf approximately 5 minutes later. Cash only no EFTPOS (our EFTPOS trial was incredibly slow, unfortunately). And well behaved dogs travel free. Cheers

Kia ora, the next period of operation is Easter Weekend, 29th, 30th, 31st, and 1st of April 2024. Hourly ex Tairua Wharf : Friday 29th the ferry will be operating between 12.00noon and 4.00pm, then Saturday, Sunday and Monday, 10.00am to 4.00pm. Cheers

The ferry is operating this weekend, 16 and 17 March, hourly ex Tairua Wharf between 10.00am and 4.00pm, arriving Pauanui Wharf approximately 5 minutes later. If you want to go to Paku jetty, just let the Captain know when you board. If you want to be picked up from Paku Jetty, please ensure you are visible on the jetty (not in a vehicle on the road, for example). Paku is an "on demand" pick up, so you need to be seen on the jetty. Cheers

Kia ora everyone, Update for Sunday 7 January: The ferry's last sailing today will be 4.00pm, not 6.00pm. The weather is miserable and everyone is staying inside.

Cancellation: Important update for Sunday 22 October. & Monday 23 October. Unfortunately, the ferry has had shaft malfunction late yesterday. Investigation shows that it will require repairs that need engineering support. This means that we are unable to operate for the remainder of Labour Weekend. Thank you.

Ferry Update: Now that the weather is a little more benign, we've been able to move the ferry to Whangamata haul out facility. It has had its bottom scrubbed and cleaned. The engineer is booked to come and fix the damage, then we will be completing our MNZ survey in the next week or so. Great to finally make it out of the harbour now that the weather has let up a bit. cheers

Kia ora everyone, update for the ferry 1 July 2023. We have finally received approval from the insurance company for repairs to the ferry after damage sustained in the May storm (apparently insurance companies are pretty busy at the moment). Once we get a weather opportunity, we will take the ferry through to Whangamata hard stand for repairs, when these are completed, we can get the 4 yearly out of water survey completed, and be back up and running. So will not be operating for the July school holidays.

Kia ora everyone, the ferry won't be operating for Kings Birthday Weekend, unfortunately. The storm and large earthquakes in the Loyalty Islands on the 20th of March created rather large swells in Tairua Harbour and consequently the ferry sustained quite a bit of damage, after three ropes and one of the chains were broken. We will need to take the ferry to Whangamata and have it hauled out to the hardstand for repairs. Icing on the cake after the summer we have all had. Cheers

Update for March 11 2023: After operating last weekend 4 & 5 March, it has rather obvious with the roading problems it is not feasible to operate the ferry during weekends in March. Our next period of operation will be Easter 2023. Thank you.

Morena - nice morning. The ferry is operating this weekend, 4 & 5 March 2023, departing hourly on the hour from Tairua Wharf between 10am and 4pm, arriving Pauanui approximately 5 minutes later. Because of the roading /weather problems, and depending on patronage, the captain will decide whether it's feasible to operate weekends in March. Cheers

The ferry will not be operating today - the met service marine forecast is for gale warnings - high winds make it hazardous and unsafe for embarking and disembarking passengers to Pauanui.
