After a hot sunny summer's day, the weather turned as a wild southerly storm approached, bringing with it an amazing display of lightning and thunder over Golden Bay. It was a spactacular show to end 2024. Happy New Year's Eve everyone!

After a busy day packed with destination suggestions, our beautiful guests Anja and Stefan from Switzerland wrote excitedly to thank us for the tips. They said they were blessed to have enjoyed "unforgettable experiences" in Golden Bay. Wainui Falls and Te Waikoropupu Springs, before exploring the stunning and world famous Wharariki Beach for the late afternoon low tide. 😍🙏

Being surrounded by flowering flaxes puts us right in the middle of territorial Tui terrain, and up and close and personal with their feathery fluffery. A photographer's heaven!

Our favourite Pohara Kea family came to check in on us again this morning. Squawking, preening in the sun and teasing me with a half wing stretch. I swear they know I'm never going to be ready fast enough to capture their orange underwing fully outstretched when they come to land on our roof. Cheeky birds.

Like quizzes? Recently Nelson's development agency shared some tips for local tourism providers. We were tested on our knowledge of our local area with a fun a quiz, and said we could use it for our guests. Cool! So I recreated it with Google Forms and popped it on our website for guests to have fun with. If you like a quiz and think you know a thing or two about the Nelson Tasman region, give it go! The dark clear skies over Golden Bay are perfect for astrophotographers. Although I wasn't able to see the aurora colours with the naked eye from Beau Vista Pohara this time (unlike the great aurora on 11 May), last night was an awesome opportunity to get out and practice a few shots of the aurora with the milky way.

Locals say to expect rain when Mount Taranaki can be seen on the horizon all the way from Golden Bay. Judging by our view this morning and the weather forecast, it looks pretty accurate as it seems we're in for another wet weekend. 🌧

No matter the weather or the season, The Grove Scenic Reserve in Clifton never disappoints. These photos were taken today when the sun came back out to play; peeping through the nikau fronds onto the wet limestone walls sculpted by the rains. 🥰
