The Outpost is a group, family and backpacker Lodge with a 28 bed capacity, situated at Mangarakau, Golden Bay at the top west of the South Island, New Zealand. The original building was Mangarakau Primary School from 1948 to 1997. We are nestled into the Kahurangi National Park which simply teems with New Zealand native bird life. Behind this peaceful pr
operty are bush clad hills overlooked by impressive limestone monoliths, creating a unique shelter belt from wind and much frequency. The West coast is a hunting and fishing dream and this area is no exception. The area is made up of numerous rivers that run through New Zealand‘s second largest inlet (Whanganui / Westhaven Inlet) Reserve information here. A few minutes south is the Paturau river. At the rivers mouth is the wild West Coast at the Tasman sea. Caves and limestone bluffs crown the hills, while bush tracks and miles of almost deserted beach decorate the landscape. Come and experience the great outdoor adventures or simply relax the way we used to in classic kiwi style.
