Hangzhou is the capital of Zhejiang Province in eastern China, known for its rich history, scenic beauty, and thriving economy. It is located near the Yangtze River Delta and is about 180 kilometers southwest of Shanghai. Hangzhou has long been celebrated as one of China’s most beautiful cities, with a history that stretches back more than 2,000 years.

Key Highlights:

1. West Lake: Hangzhou’s most famous landmark, West Lake (Xī Hú), is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Surrounded by mountains, temples, gardens, and pavilions, it has inspired poets, artists, and scholars for centuries. Its tranquil beauty makes it a must-see for tourists.
2. Silk and Tea: Hangzhou is historically famous for its silk production and tea culture. The city is home to some of the best varieties of Chinese green tea, including Dragon Well (Lóngjǐng) tea, which is grown on plantations near the lake.
3. Economy and Innovation: Hangzhou is a modern metropolis and a center for technology and commerce. It is home to Alibaba Group, one of the world’s largest e-commerce companies. The city’s economic growth has been driven by its tech industry, along with traditional industries like textiles.
4. Temples and Cultural Heritage: Hangzhou has numerous ancient temples and cultural sites. The Lingyin Temple, one of China’s most renowned Buddhist temples, is located in the city. The nearby Feilai Feng (Flying Peak) is also known for its carved Buddhist statues.
5. Modern Development: Despite its ancient heritage, Hangzhou is a dynamic, modern city. It hosted the G20 summit in 2016, which showcased its blend of tradition and innovation. The city is also set to host the 2022 Asian Games (rescheduled to 2023), further increasing its global profile.

Hangzhou’s blend of natural beauty, history, and modernity makes it a unique and important city both within China and internationally.

This weekend's **Treaty of Waitangi workshop** provided an engaging and insightful learning experience. Participants gathered in a collaborative circle, surrounded by educational materials that emphasized the key themes of the Treaty, such as language, land, and sovereignty. The workshop focused on exploring whether Te Tiriti (the Treaty) was honored after its signing, sparking important discussions about New Zealand's history and the ongoing impact of the Treaty today. With visual aids and a thoughtful presentation, attendees were encouraged to reflect on the past while considering future implications for indigenous rights and cultural preservation.
By learning this, we also become more mindful of cultural understanding and diversity in our work, fostering the development of a more inclusive environment.

Last night, I had the privilege of attending the 30th anniversary celebration of the Multicultural Tauranga Organization. I am very proud to be a member of this multicultural organization. Over the past three decades, this organization has continuously promoted cultural understanding and cooperation, and promoted harmony and diversity in the community. On this special night, I gathered with friends from different backgrounds to celebrate this important milestone. It is a great honor to be able to participate and witness this history in person. I am proud to be part of the multicultural family of Multicultural Tauranga, and I look forward to continuing to contribute to the diversity and inclusion of the community in the future.

The Mid-Autumn Festival event on Friday night concluded successfully! First, we would like to express our big thanks to the Embassy for their strong support, as well as to the Tauranga City Council and our sponsors(Tremains, Chinese culture and arts centre, 88 restaurants, Susanna Lin Photography), who have always cared for and helped us. A special thanks to Member of Parliament Nancy Lu for her tireless efforts and for flying in specifically to attend the event. We would also like to thank all the performers and volunteers , especially the Bay of Plenty Cultural Center dance group , the Spring Art group from Hamilton, the Indian Dance School, the Otumoetai Korean Performance Team, the couple dancers from the Western community and Elsa Gu. It was your hard work that made this unforgettable and wonderful performance possible. Although the process was challenging, seeing everyone deeply immersed and thoroughly enjoying the event brings us immense satisfaction. We look forward to gathering again next year!

Special thanks to Susanna Lin Photography for capturing such amazing photos for us!
