Experience the first-ever augmented reality (AR) sculpture trail in Aotearoa, celebrating Matariki with a special focus on the twin stars Waitī (fresh water) and Waitā (salt water). Using AR technology, this interactive journey brings to life stunning digital artworks by renowned New Zealand artists. Today marks the 160th huritau (anniversary) of The Battle of Gate Pā (Pukehinahina), a significant battle that took place in Tauranga during the New Zealand Land Wars.
Visit Te Kauhanga Riri ō Pukehinahina, now transformed into an outdoor reserve. Immerse yourself in history as you stroll through the grounds, discover intricate whakairo (carvings) honouring both British and Māori warriors, and feel the wairua (spirit) of this remarkable landmark.
