Most of the fleet was out and about today to have 10 people on the water! The Red & Aqua double kayaks, which make up the full fleet's colour scheme, were still at home!

It sounds like we have company on the river…. 🦭.

Seals do occasionally come up the Waihou River, working their way up toward Okoroire, chasing fish and exploring.

Today, there has been a report of a seal upstream toward Matamata.

In 2020, I was fortunate to spot this one cruising up past the Te Aroha rail-bridge (cycleway bridge).

You never do know just who or what you might see on the river 😁

River flow rates are dropping, providing an opportunity for some spring cleaning along the river!

We have seen a 10% drop in river flow in the last week, and a 10 cm fall in river level - with the dry weather resulting in an effective increase in the proportion of water coming from groundwater and springs.

Here's hoping for another dry week and further improvements in water quality as we hope to get out on the river this weekend for some spring cleaning and clearing to keep this route open for all river users.

There is nothing like a quick evening paddle and a good sunset!

With the longer days and warmer weather, we are busy here preparing to open for regular weekend tours in the coming months.

At this stage, Adventure Te Aroha will be running for the ~6 month period from Labour Weekend 2024 to Easter 2025, subject to the weather and river flow.

We have space for up to 14 people on the river, though we usually run smaller trips of 2-7 people at any time. For large groups please contact me directly on 0211239321 or [email protected] .

Tours will depart from the bus-stop outside Te Aroha Information Centre, 102 Whitaker Street, Te Aroha.

Bookings are required, with regular weekend tours available and the first few bookings already made!

- River tours will run twice a day: 9:00AM and 1:30 PM
- A third tour at 5:00 PM will run during the summer months.

Group tours outside of these weekend slots are bookable by arrangement, in advance.

Spring has definitely arrived! You never quite know what you might spot out here🐥. (Safely removed from the road and placed in the grass with its parents carefully watching...).

It's a busy time here too, preparing for another season of kayak adventures 🛶.

With exceptionally good weather forecast this weekend and low river levels, Adventure Te Aroha will be running self-guided kayak tours this Sunday. 10 am start, with potential to run a 1 pm trip if numbers permit.

Brrr; it’s cooling down at nights now! 🥶

As the weather changes and the days get shorter, Adventure Te Aroha will be winding up our normal scheduled sessions in the next month. 🛶 .

Evening tours are no longer available due to the shorter days.

We are running just one tour this weekend, for the 9am Sunday session - with only 5 spots left in the van!

Plenty more kayaks available if you care to join us, mind you. We have space for up to 14 people at any time!

Nothing beats a crisp morning paddle in the sun; and the air is lovely and fresh too. 🌅

Adventure Te Aroha has been closed this weekend, however I’ve managed to take a few snaps of my kayak adventures elsewhere!

A great few days spent exploring Kawau Island, New Zealand, both by land and sea.

Adventure Te Aroha self-guided kayak tours will be running this again this weekend, with another 20 people booked to come explore the Waihou River in the coming weeks!

Spaces still available - we will be open into early April, though the evening tours will no longer be an option as the days become shorter.

Adventure Te Aroha will be closed this weekend 02-03 March and the weekend of 16-17 March.

Open for the weekends of 9-10 March and 23-24 March, and likewise the Easter Weekend 30 March - 01 April.

Make the most of the warm weather and last of the longer days and see the autumn colours as they come through!

Happy New Year to all! ☺️

What a stunning day to start 2024, with beauty on both land and water!

Making short-work of Mt Te Aroha this afternoon, I shot a short view showing what you can expect to see from the summit on a good day! Today the Kaimai were clear but the mountains further afield were shrouded from view in the Waikato haze.

Back to the river, our self-guided kayak tours will be operating again in 2024, and we’d love to see you there 🛶 🏞.

Here in Te Aroha, we are incredibly fortunate to have a wide array of activities at our doorstep!

While the weather may not be playing nice this weekend, the cheeky thunderstorms sure do make for nice waterfalls!

Only a 10 minute walk from the car, this is one for the whole family ☺️.

While it is lovely, there are still some trees restricting safe passage down the river, with a few logs which were hidden by higher river levels earlier in the year.

I will be chopping these away over the next couple of weeks, and hope to reopen for bookings for January 2024.
