Crazy Aurora
The strongest southern lights I have ever seen. Even the moon was so bright, we can still see those pillars reaching zenith. All the stars around horizon are washed out.

Undeniably the best star gazing tour in Tekapo! George is incredibly knowledgeable, and provides an outstanding night sky tour complete with delicious hot chocolate, heaps of interesting useful information, comfortable seating and warm blankets, photos to remember the evening with and roasting marshmallows over an open fire pit topped off the experience perfectly!

All this at a very reasonable cost and it’s only 3 minutes drive from Takapo Retreat!

There’s still lots of snow for great days skiing. 40 minutes drive to Roundhill Ski field from Takapo Retreat, this family friendly ski field is a fantastic days worth of fun. Then head back to Takapo Retreat to soak in either of the 2 hot spas and relax by open fire 🔥
