Had the most epic day testing my limits with cairns_canyoning_australia we did the Behana Canyon and had so much fun! Highly recommend doing this for the whole family. One lady on our trip was hitting 60 and the guides were telling me they had an 8 year old on there the other day and he loved it! Felt safe and looked after at every point of the trip, was pushed outside of my comfort zone and loved it, but never felt forced to do any of it, with some opting out for easier options along the way. Will be back for more when I'm next here! Make sure you book in advance as the trips fill up fast! https://www.cairnscanyoning.com

We decided to miss Cinque Terre and just head to Porto Venere to spend the day and glad we did. A quieter sea side village that has been dubbed the "6th village" of Cinque Terre. With colorful homes and lots of history there was plenty for a full day. A great place to not have such big crowds and to also see plenty. Wish we had more time, but had to get to Pisa for the night where we got to do the standard holding the tower up pics as well as a trip up the tower as last time I was here it was out of bounds. Stayed in the historic centre which allowed us to walk about in the evening and enjoy the people and find a nice place for dinner.

Day 2 in Rome was amazing we had another day of doing the tourist trail including St Peter's Basilica and the Vatican. I'm impressed to say the least and to see my 8 yr olds jaw hit the floor in both the sistine chapel and St Peter's Basilica made me realise just how impressive it is. No photos are allowed in the chaple but, plenty of amazing places throughout the day. Recommend coming to see for yourself!

TIPS**

* All churches are free to enter in Rome, however you need to dress appropriately. General rule don't show your knees and your shoulders. Saying this depends on the guard as some were more picky than others.
*wearing a singlet don't worry the street vendors have you covered with scarfs to cover your shoulders. Pretty too so good souvenir even if you don't get pulled up.
*Rome has free water fountains. I wasn't quite prepared to drink from, but did use the chilled dispenser which gives the option of free sparkling water too and I didn't have any issues.
*make sure if you're blonde like me bring purple shampoo. My hair started to turn green with all the chlorine in the water.
*tipping is not expected in Rome, but if you have great service and food I would. Just watch your Bill at the end as they will add extras. Had one incident where my hubby ordered a second beer that never came so he ordered again and it still never came. Got the bill and we were charged 3 beers (only received 1) and a craft of wine we never ordered.
*watch your bag!! Lady next to us had her bag stolen from back of her chair. She was in middle of restaurant and didn't leave her seat once. A guy came and took their photo and we guess this is when it happened. Unfortunately her passport was in the bag and she was supposed to fly the next day! Hope she had insurance!
*speaking of bags use an over the shoulder bag when traveling this is safer and allows you to keep your bag on even at restaurants. It also allows you to be hands free to take photos etc.
* If you're not used to high temperatures don't come to Rome in Summer it's stupidly hot, even those that live here leave and head to their summer houses. I used to live in the tropics and I can say I don't think I have ever felt that hot!
*food glorious food 😋 loved everything we ate such beautiful flavours, they have GF options but seriously lots of pasta and Pizza at every restaurant! Try something different we had octopus at one place it was devine!
*Opening hours are random even when you take in seista time. Shopping is amazing but get away from the tourist route to find the bargains and good stores.

Overall Rome was a melting pot (literally) of cultures, fashion, history and food. Something to see at every corner. I think I might come back, but in a cooler season.

Our 1st day in Rome! So much happening and so many people. Temperature was in the high 30s most of the day and low 30s for the evening which I didn't think would be so bad until you add the people factor! The photos don't tell the story but perhaps my face in the final photo does! Rome is an overload of historic sites at every corner. This is my 5th time to Italy and my first to Rome. I have loved the history and food, but I am looking forward to getting back to the Italian countryside for a quieter pace and true Italian experiences. Off to Vatican City today. Recommend coming here in the cooler seasons to take your time to enjoy the city.

Just saw this and was a stark reminder, no matter where you are traveling get travel insurance as soon as you book. Best outcome is you don't need it, but it's a life saver if you do!

Road tripping and found NZ has its very own Dutch style windmill. Perfect opportunity for this redband clad kid to show off his heritage in one photo!
