WineWorks New Zealand You bring the wine, we’ll bring the works.
• Auckland 🍷
• Hawke’s Bay 🥂
• Marlborough 🍇 WineWorks are industry experts.

WineWorks began in 1995 to provide key bottling infrastructure for wineries. In the following 20 years we’ve grown with our winery customers, to ensure we have capacity for our customers in the New Zealand wine industry. We’ve made (and continue to make) big investments in world-class technology, machinery and facilities, and of course our people. Bottling, labelling, storage and distribution are

highly specialised processes. We have the expertise, experience and , coupled with our enthusiastic application of what we’ve learnt through Lean Manufacturing, make it easy for you. For our customers, we see ourselves as the ‘gearbox’ of your business – we look after the ‘industrial’ side of bottling wine, and then store and despatch it. This enables you to do what you do best – grow and market great New Zealand wines.

The 2024 Marlborough Wine Show was held the other weekend and it was a great day to see so many of our clients get recognised with trophies!

We proudly sponsor both Sauvignon Blanc trophies and this year they go to:
🏆 Yealands Wines for Champion Sauvignon Blanc (Current Vintage)
🏆Saint Clair Family Estate Champion Sauvignon Blanc (2023 & Older)

And a special mention again to Yealands for taking home two extra trophies for their Single Block L5 Sauvignon Blanc: ⭐ The Coterie Wine of Provenance and the Circuit Logistics Champion Awatere & South Marlborough ⭐

🌱 When local CO2 resources were scarce, it was very apparent that we had to reduce our CO2 gas usage, divert, and save what we had for Hawke’s Bay.

Our experts across the business began investigating and running rests as soon as they could to minimise as much disruption as possible. →

It’s Organic Wine Week! Did you know that over 10% of New Zealand wineries are certified organic? Here at WineWorks, we have the right certification to handle organic wine.

Each year, we are audited by BioGro to ensure that our facilities are adequately set up to bottle, package, and distribute organic wines.

For vineyards to achieve this , they must follow organic practices for more than three years to receive the certification! It is a long process, but going organic, and being certified organic, is a great milestone to achieve.

What a great night, and an amazing $335,697 raised for the important work done by
A huge thank you to everyone for their part in this: to all our local wineries who so generously support this event, the team at for all their organisation, and to our fellow sponsors.
But a special thanks to all the bidders on the night who helped reach this total; you have some very special wines in more way than one. Thank you!

Today is Box Wine Day!! Here at WineWorks, we are excited to begin celebrating this day each year. Why? Because we’re going to have our very own Bag in Box filler!

Here are some photos of the current installation of the filler. It might not look like much now, but shortly the filler and all the other compartments will be connected. Our team is working hard at getting all the ducks in a row with the installation and roll out of the new filler.

🌱 Because we have bottling facilities across New Zealand, staff travel is common.
Our carbon emission pledge and the subsequent pandemic lockdowns influenced how we perceived this luxury.
Now, our teams are encouraged to only travel between sites if it’s essential. And, à la pandemic days, video calls are our recommended alternative, and get the job done just as well!

Our new neighbour at WineWorks Marlborough is coming along quite nicely! Construction of QuayConnect’s Marlborough Inland Port is well underway and set to be operational in December!

The Inland Port will give the region’s supply chain more resources, capacity, convenience; as well as providing local businesses resilient and sustainable options for distributing their product.

Thank you to Jim Tannock Photography for the awesome video of the construction progress from late July!

Stay tuned for more!

🌱 Bottling and storing wine is a high-energy operation!

Our equipment needs to be as efficient as
possible to get our clients wine to market as well as keeping up with the pace and volumes going through every corner of the business.

In the Marlborough Production Hall, our team of experts took the time to review their machines in order to make them more efficient with energy consumption. →

Over the last couple of months, a project at WineWorks Auckland got the green light from council to commence! We’ve been calling it the ‘Hole in the Wall’ project, because that’s literally what it is!

We have two electric tugs at the Auckland site, and this hole in the wall is to create a direct pathway between our Production Hall, and the warehouse right next door.

With this new route, our tugs no longer need to travel through the carpark, reducing traffic and boosting time efficiencies. Plus, we no longer rely on gas forklifts or diesel trucks to move goods between the buildings.

Here’s a clip of one of the tugs moving bottles directly into the Production Hall!

Our very own Tim Nowell-Usticke is featured in this month’s issue of BayBuzz! Tim was interviewed by BayBuzz about what we do and our sustainability initiatives. The article covers our recent Toitū Net Carbon Zero accomplishments 🌱 as well as giving perspective on the day-to-day operations across our three sites.

…but wait‼️ For the first time ever, Tim’s Sweepstake has two winners! The sweepstake is a fan-favourite here at WineWorks, so Tim has generously held one just for us. Now that we know the tonnage, Pete VB from the Auckland team, has walked away $100 richer!

Tim greeted Pete the other day to deliver him his well-earned winnings. Pete’s guess this year was 394,780; just 220 tonnes under the official figure. This is the second time in a row where a WineWorks Auckland teammate has won the sweepstake! Good job Pete 🤝💸

The harvest reports for 2024 are out, which means that we can announce the lucky winner of Tim’s Vintage Sweepstake 📢 Congratulations to Richelle Tyney at Greywacke, who held the closest guess at 395,790 tonnes. Richelle gladly accepted the crisp $100 note from Tim on a Friday afternoon and took her team mates straight to the pub! 🍻🍇💸

New Zealand’s grape yield this year was down by 21%, weighing in at 395,000 tonnes. With an ideal growing season, the grapes are lined up to be excellent to say the least. We are excited to see the 2024 vintage go through our bottling lines in the coming months, and excited for next year’s sweepstake!

🎨 The featured artist for the 2024 Hawke’s Bay Wine Auction was debuted the other night, and what a stunning piece of art it is! “The Devil is in the Detail”, 2024 acrylic on canvas, by Helen Kerridge.

As always, we are proud to be the Principal Partner of the auction. In 2023, the wine auction raised just over $300,000 for Cranford Hospice. It is starting to look like the wine packages up for sale to the highest bidders look better than ever. 🍷🍇🥂

🌱 On June 27th, Toitū held a webinar all about product lifecycle emission hotspots in FMCG. The webinar was tailored to prospective businesses who are starting their own carbon reduction journey, covering topics such as supply chains, consumers, and regulations to list a few.

Our Group Quality and Compliance Manager, Sophie, who is also our Toitū reporter, presented in the webinar on how taking action to reduce emissions is realistic and a possible thing to achieve.

Sophie shared how we reduced our emissions by 45% in the first three years with Toitū, as well as giving simple, everyday tips and tricks on how we can all watch our carbon footprint. Our next focus is looking at our Scope 3 emissions; collaborating with supply chain partners on how we can make further improvements in this area to help reach NZ Wine’s goal of carbon zero by 2050.

Today is World Food Safety Day, and it’s an incredibly important topic here at WineWorks. Our clients not only trust us to package wine they put so much effort into producing, but they also trust us to package it in a safe and sanitary environment.

We believe food safety is the responsibility of everyone in our team, so it’s a culture we focus to embed at every level of what we do.

We are currently audited by 14 different certification bodies across the business, including BRCGS; one of our most stringent certifications. We pride ourselves on keeping our client’s product safe as it travels through our facilities, until it’s poured into the glass.

🫧🍾🥂 WineWorks Hawke’s Bay has some big and bubbly additions; three 25,000 litre Charmat tanks! These pressurised tanks are specially designed and engineered to handle wine under-going a secondary fermentation creating the bubbles in tank, rather than in bottle as per Méthode Traditionelle sparkling wines. We’re fizzing with excitement to put these extra tanks to use! 🤩🍇
