Our Story

Late 2009, working as a makeup artist, I got a phone call from the manager of Creative Tauranga, who was then in charge of running the Cargo Shed creative arts market. It was a special day at The Cargo Shed and their regular face painter had called in sick/unavailable. They knew me as a makeup artist from my invovlement in Tarnished Frocks and Divas, so they called to ask if I also face painted...Sure! I said. Having never done it professionally before.
I took a shower, found my non-toxic water-colour paints (that I had around for general art), some makeup brushes and spent a quick hour searching for basic designs online and printing them out to take with me. I filled a backpack with my new supplies and hoofed it over the Matapihi bridge on my bicycle to The Cargo Shed at the end of the The Strand.
Successful mission. Happy paying customers. I was surprised to be given $20 by the organiser to subsidise my morning’s earnings and asked back to paint for their next occasion.
After that I invested in proper face paints and supplies and started taking paid bookings, now charging $100/hour for private or $110/hour for commerical events and have painted from Pukekohe to Whakatane.
