Kia ora, I would like to take a quick moment to introduce myself. My name is Tania and I have the wonderful job of being the new admin for the TKOT - Waikuku Beach Holiday Park, page. You may have seen some of my posts lately, usually accompanied by pictures in nature around our beautiful park. Autumn is a pretty time here and with the fantastic weather at the moment I will try and post a pic every day that I'm onsite, to reflect just that!

WARNING

We are in for the first significant rain of 2023 over the next few days, thankfully nowhere near the amount that has fallen on the North over the past 6 weeks.

However, given we have been extremely dry to date over the summer and the old drain infrastructure, we will likely get some localised flooding within the holiday park.

If needed, we will have cones in place as soon as practicable and we have contingency should any water 💦 be there at the end of the week.

A big thanks to the team this week as I have been out of action with a detached retina and associated surgery.

A few things have changed with Michelle joining us as Team Leader, Henrietta and I moving back to Christchurch in preparation for Deane moving into the house and a couple of new cleaners added to the roster.

The maintenance work in the dog friendly area is about to get underway, along with a few sites between middle and top.

We have the cabin floors booked for mechanical cleaning, new soap dispensers going into the amenity blocks and more mulching of the recent plantings.

Rex A and Nickolai will be regular weekly visitors helping out with the ground maintenance.

I hope to be up and about in a week or so but in the meantime if you need anything, contact the office and Michelle.

Dog Friendly Sites: Quite rightly we are receiving some candid feedback on the state of the dog friendly sites within the camp.

They are dry and devoid of grass and trees and a number are eroded with sandy potholes.

While we are only caretaking until the 30th June, we cannot continue to book these sites out in good faith.

Therefore from 7th February to 6th April we will be closing a third of the sites for maintenance. When these are reopened, we will close another third and complete the maintenance of those sites.

Sites 24, 26, 28, 30 and 31 are the first group of sites being retired.

Situations Vacant: We are looking for casual or fixed term cleaners to help out at the Holiday Park.

While some experience would be preferred, reliability and attention to detail are the attributes we are most looking for to maintain a clean, tidy and sanitised environment for holiday park guests.

Mikaela, Zeta, Emily and Rose have done an excellent job planting up the hill opposite the office. While the plants were initially going to be planted within Tūhaitara Coastal Park, the mini drought conditions we are experiencing means it will be easier to look after them in this location.

An interesting letter to the editor in this mornings The Press regarding the dilemma between watering the garden and conserving water/excess water charges.

We have been facing the same dilemma here with a mini-drought and a pretty full holiday park over Christmas and New Year taking their toll on the grass. We have held off as long as we can, hoping for those forecast rain events to no avail.

As of today we will be carrying out some much needed watering, especially where there are signs of erosion.

Long term though, whomever takes on the lease should be looking to utilise the grey water from the washing machines and showers and rainwater collection.
