✨ That’s a wrap! ✨ Over the weekend, we closed a 5-show season of ‘You’ll Have to Laugh or You’ll Cry’ after 8 weeks of devising. It has been a whirlwind of laughter, and it’s so sad to see the process wrap up. We’re feeling exceptionally lucky to have worked with such a talented and adaptable cast and crew. It’s always a joy to put on a show!

Meet the cast of our upcoming show ‘You’ll Have to Laugh or You’ll Cry’, a unique devised theatre piece performed in a found space in central Wellington

This innovative production utilizes live projection and camera feed to bring a series of thought-provoking stories to life. Structured as short skits or scenes, each piece touches upon the challenges faced by rangatahi, infusing a sense of lightness, comedy, and hope.

Much like the sentiment of the title, this performance encourages us to explore how joy can be an everyday act of resilience.

Ella Gilbert and Samuel Austin are both multidisciplinary artists who have made their mark at Longcloud.

Ella’s recent credits include: Valerie in The Gone (TVNZ,BBC) season 1 and 2 (still shooting). Elisabeth in ‘Skin Tight’ (Circa Theatre. Winner outstanding performance- Wellington Theatre awards.)

Based in central Pōneke/Wellington, Long Cloud makes multiple brand new, experimental projects each year with actors aged 16-25. You will become a better actor and artist, strengthening your skills through practical performance experience and the opportunity to work with Wellington’s foremost directors and tutors.

Long cloud is looking for young actors to join the company for our next scripted show! Our next show is a devised theatre piece that incorporates live camera feed and projection We’ll be creating the show across 8 weeks ending with a 4 night performance season.

If you are successful in your audition, you’ll join the company, hitting the ground running with work on our upcoming show. You’ll work intensively training voice, movement and acting for stage and screen. You will grow as an artist and be able to make connections and relationships in the professional Wellington theatre scene.

We rehearse at Te Auaha (Dixon street) on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings. Rehearsals for this project start on Monday the 13th of May and the performance season is 4 nights from the 11th to the 14th of July 2024

Long cloud is looking for young actors to join the company on our next project which will be making a series of music videos for local Wellington musicians.

If you are successful in your audition, you’ll join the company, hitting the ground running with a series of masterclasses. You’ll have intensives on screen acting, cinematography and more. You will grow as an artist and be able to make connections and relationships in the professional Wellington theatre scene.

We rehearse at Te Auaha (Dixon street) on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings. Rehearsals for this project start on Monday the 4th of September and run until early November.

It’s a story we all know - the lease is up and that calls for celebration! 4 flatmates about to part ways decide to take ownership of their personal growth, but perhaps to their detriment? Regardless, they're throwing a party and they've invited 12 of their least favourite guests.

In case you’ve missed it - Victoria University is currently in the process of completely gutting their arts and humanities departments, including the incredible theatre course.

Long Cloud has massively benefited from the theatre programme at VUW. So many of our company members have been current students or graduates of courses at Victoria University. If we lose the theatre course at Vic Uni we lose a massive and important pipeline of exciting artists, creatives and empathic leaders.

You will become a better actor and artist, strengthening your skills through practical performance experience and the opportunity to work with Wellington’s foremost directors and tutors. Long Cloud has been running for over 15 years and there are alumni working in film, television and theatre all across the country.

Long cloud is looking for young actors (Aged 16-25) to join the join the company for the summer intensive!! We are excited to be performing Another Mammal by Jo Randerson. This show will be co directed by Ben Ashby and Nosiphi Mapukata. It is a special project as it’s Ben’s last as Artistic Director and Nosiphi’s first!

If you are successful in your audition, you’ll join the company for our summer intensive and then have the option to continue into the rest of our 2023 season if you wish. You’ll have intensive voice, movement and acting training. You will grow as an artist and be able to make connections and relationships in the professional Wellington theatre scene.

Announcing our new Artistic Director! Nosiphi Mapukata.

We had an extensive search and a strong set of applicants, and we are really excited for the next chapter of Long Cloud with Nosiphi at the helm.

As a creative practitioner Nosiphi is well versed in a wide array of mediums, having directed for both stage and screen. Her approach to her practice allows her to have a pragmatic as well as creative response to making. Being a q***r woman of colour providing access and representation within her work is something that’s always at the forefront of her practice. Nosiphi is a 1st generation immigrant originating from South Africa, raised in Ōtautahi. She is a recent graduate of a Bachelor’s in Creative Media Production from Massey University, Wellington.

“I’m really excited to be taking on this position, having been a part of a youth company myself I know how special it is. It’s the place I learnt not only to dream, but how to action those dreams into something tangible.”

Ben and Nosiphi will be co-directing a summer intensive in late January - early Feb, audition post coming soon.

Throwback to 10 weeks ago when we brought in our own responses to what a rite of passage is. 4 weeks of writing and 6 weeks of rehearsal later and it’s showtime on Tuesday.
