That's a wrap on a massive week for YoungTEC! 🎬

Big thanks to all the members who came along to Summit on Wednesday for a morning jam-packed with learning, reflection and connection. Kayleigh Woodings, Adam Taylor-Eruera and Lynda Keene led some fantastic sessions on emotional culture, creating a pepeha and working with ITO's, before we channeled our inner All Blacks led by captain Cecil Potatau.

Also ka pai to the 19 members who attended Leadership Day 2024 👩‍🏫 We hope you soaked up lots of tools and tactics to incorporate into your own career journeys - our appreciation to The Icehouse and the Hospitality Training Trust for their support in bringing this day to life.

Meet our 2024/2025 YoungTEC Exec Team continued....

This time, introducing you our Chair.

Hey! I’m Amanda – a mix of WOO, Includer, Positivity, Communication, and Activator, which means I’m all about people, energy, and action! I grew up in a small town on the east coast of Otago but now call beautiful Queenstown home.

By day, I’m the Partnerships Lead at Grow Tourism, connecting learners and businesses to our platform to help build the tourism workforce of the future through industry-focused learning and micro-credentials.

Outside of work, I’m a mum to my energetic and inquisitive son, Jack, who keeps me on my toes. I’m also a big tourism advocate and believe in the amazing careers this industry offers. My mission is to shift perceptions and help retain talent in tourism (shout out to YTEC and Grow who continuously support this too).

When I’m not working or chasing after Jack, I’m usually trail running, taking cold-water dips, mountain biking, or enjoying coffee (or wine). Feel free to join me for any of the above – the more ( ), the merrier!

I'm Eleri, originally from Wales, like many others, I came to New Zealand for a snow season and ended up staying. Twelve years later, Aotearoa is home.

By day, you’ll find me wearing a few different hats running Haka Educational & Haka Sports Tours. My true passion lies in witnessing the life-changing impact travel has on rangatahi. I firmly believe that businesses have the power to do immense good for people, the planet, and communities. This calls for a fresh approach where purpose and impact hold equal weight to profit.

Out of work, you'll find me immersed in the natural world, the ocean, bush, or mountains. While I'm not much of a bookworm, I'm obsessed with personal development and thrive on podcasts. If you’ve got any good recommendations, send them my way.

Drumroll please... 🥁 Announcing your YoungTEC Board for 2024/2025!

Amanda Linklater (Grow Tourism) has been voted in as Chair, leading the 8-strong committee. Narissa Phipps (First Light Travel) is our Vice Chair, with Eleri Williams (Haka Tours) and Ryan Wilmshurst (Maverick Digital) also continuing on for their second terms.

New to the team, we're excited to announce Amy Gibson (WellingtonNZ), Emma Canute (Wētā Workshop), Fiona Boffy (RealNZ) and Santos McKenzie (Hobbiton) have been elected to the hotly contested seats. A massive congratulations and warm welcome aboard, we can't wait to see the fresh ideas and new perspectives you bring to YoungTEC 🙌

The first-ever South Island Leadership Day was an absolute hit 🎉

22 keen YoungTEC'ers attended a day full of insightful, thought-provoking and tangible sessions to help turbocharge their career journeys, facilitated by Liz from The Icehouse and hosted at Hotel St Moritz, Queenstown.

Big thanks to everyone who came along, and to Icehouse Alumni John Wikstrom (from Magic Memories) and Mel Rowsell (HR expert and Neuroscience Coach) for their enlightening contributions. Of course, the day wouldn't have been possible without the generous support of the Tourism Industry New Zealand Trust.

Georgia MacMillan from Tomahawk and Morgan Potter from Central Otago District Council, who were jointly crowned as YoungTEC's Rising Stars.
