Nature is breathtaking and crossing paths with it cannot be overstated!

That's what we're all about, getting people outside and interacting with the ocean to appreciate and learn from it.

Our family has loved being part of Whale Island - we love showing people with our walks on the Island, all the restoration and we also LOVE to take people swimming around Whale Island with the friendly Kekeno seals.

Carly has just put out her next video on her SaltyEgo YouTube channel. If you have a few minutes it has some great footage. Hard to believe we have all that in our beautiful country of New Zealand. We certainly live in the Bay of PLENTY! Well done Carly!

Our Story

Diveworks Charters has been operating since 1997 and is a genuine family affair. Phil designed and purpose-built the 10m Diveworks boat so it easily handles the sea and is great for divers and snorkelers!

Whale Island also known as Moutohora Island, is a wild life sanctuary administered by the Department of Conservation and local Ngati Awa Maori. Guided tours to the Island are run by Diveworks Charters who have over 25 years experience with the Island and its restoration. Home to Kiwi, Saddle-back, Tui, Kakariki, Falcon, geckos and the dinosaur lizard the Tuatara.

Quarantine is essential at the beginning of the tour as Whale Island is pest free sanctuary.

Diveworks Whale Island Guided tour is 4 hours. Includes walking, seeing geothermal area at Sulphur Bay, seeing the friendly seals, checking out the bird life. Opportunities for photographers to take scenic or bird watching photos. The tour includes circumnavigation of the Island, checking out the seals, bird life, and amazing rock formation. In summer there is an opportunity for a swim as well. The tours are filled with first-hand island information and history. Phil is passionate about Whale Island, and showing you how wonderful the wildlife sanctuary has become.
