Here’s another must do for mountain bikers. The Kaimanawa Descent- heli lift up to the alpine elevation, and ride the 23km down through amazing beech forest. The assembly point is about 45 minutes from Ohakune, just off the Desert Road

Great to get the season underway early this year! Surprisingly, no crowds at Turoa on Thursday and Friday this week. Limited midfield skiing, but good to give the legs a wake up before the next lot of snow comes through. If you were a learner on the Alpine Meadow, you scored! Perfect conditions there, with hardly any queues.

Riding the mountain road from the house is highly recommended, and about ten times easier on an ebike!
This is May 2023, with some early season snow. Winter is likely to be icy on the road, and a lot busier- so plan to ride summer or shoulder season 👍

Bridge to Nowhere another must do for mountain bikers. Roll down the road from the house to SLR for a shuttle to the start of the Mangapurua trail. Starting with a good climb of around 500m elevation, the profile is nice and user friendly. Great views from the top on a good day! A traverse across the tops before an awesome downhill towards the Whanganui River. Lunch on the way, lots to look at, then a swim before boarding the jet boat for a 40 minute fang down to Pipiriki where the shuttle bus awaits for the lift back to Ohakune 👌
