Pipiriki, the southern gateway to the Whanganui National Park, it is from here we your operator welcome you aboard. All tours are small ensuring a memorable experience and can be tailor-made to suit your personal requirements. Ken (your local guide/driver, who first started driving Commercial Jetboats in 1985) and his wife - Josephine (whose family have been on the river for generations and still

work and live here today) have extensive local knowledge and stories of their entire childhood of growing up and living alongside the mystical Whanganui River, Ken will share with you the history and stories of the river stops and of the early settlers in the Mangapurua Valley - the famous "Bridge To Nowhere". Ko au te awa Ko te awa ko au
I am the river and the river is me

Get off the beaten track and explore the untouched Whanganui River on one of our Jetboats (specially designed by us) or our Canoe Tours. Be immersed in our local indigenous Maori and Pre-European culture by local river people (tangata whenua o te awa) for a truly unique experience and lots of beautiful memories to cherish.

Ken just arrived back on our Whanganui River Adventures Jetboat - Ariki (22 seater Twin) from picking up our Tour Aotearoa unofficial riders from Whakahoro Blue Duck Station after dropping our partnership Charter Tour clients with Forgotten World Adventures.
Thanks guys for the great working partnership we all share.
Just another day on the river (awa) doing what Ken does best and our love and respect for all our best interests to look after our part of the river (awa) we work on with other Operators.
It's there for all of us to enjoy. Just makes sense.

Thistles and bush grow up around the old community building at the abandoned Ahu Ahu ohu, in a remote area on a tributary of the Whanganui River. The government's ohu scheme, which allowed communities to settle on Crown-owned land, was announced in 1973. However, the initiative lost one of its main proponents with the death of Prime Minister Norman Kirk the following year. Groups struggled to find suitable land, and only about eight ohu were ever established. Ahu Ahu survived until about 2000, despite difficulties with access and other problems. Pākehā settlers had attempted to farm the area from the late 19th century, but walked off the land in the 1930s when floods destroyed the access road. In 1999 the ohu's land was returned to the Department of Conservation.
