This is a very exciting story of a bold and courageous journey for a team of papermakers with unique abilities. Nowhere else in NZ is there a working papermill using completely recycled materials, making totally handcrafted products. The Papermill delivers meaningful work experience for people with intellectual disabilities. The facilities in Whangarei are available to the public as an educational

and tourist attraction. And if you like shopping - then come and see us too - our shop is full of interesting art and paper products - all unique pieces - handmade - here in Whangarei, New Zealand.

Hungry Caterpillars Wanted! 🐛
We have 4 mature swan plants that are ready and waiting for some little nibblers! Unfortunately, we haven’t seen any monarch butterflies around lately. If anyone has some monarch caterpillars looking for a new home, we'd love to have them. Please let us know if you can help! 🌱🦋

🌿 It’s been a busy week at The Papermill! We’ve been hard at work processing agapanthus and alstroemeria to transform them into beautiful handmade paper. 🌸 From cutting and pounding to shredding and soaking, we’re experimenting with different methods to find the best way to work with agapanthus stalks. Can’t wait to see the results! Stay tuned for our paper-making journey! 📜✨

Our annual exhibition 'Our Paper, Our Prints, Our Stories' is on outside Reyburn House Art Studios at the Town Basin today from 11am (a later starting time due to the weather). Come and see for yourself these amazing artworks our artists have created. While you are there have a go at papermaking and fun with the skittles!

It’s a beautiful morning down at the Town Basin. Our exhibition ‘Our Paper, Our Prints, Our Stories’ is on outside the Reyburn House Art Studios. Come and check out the Papermakers’ fabulous artwork and try your hand at papermaking and have fun with our version of 10 pin bowling! All artwork along with fabulous printed cards are for sale! We had an absolutely fantastic day yesterday at Matarau School, introducing the little ones to the magic of papermaking! From tearing the paper to hand mulching, feeding the Hollander, and creating fish-shaped masterpieces, they were fully immersed in the process. Our incredible papermakers Becky, Nicole, Keegan, and Julia were super teachers! A special shoutout to Nicole, who returned as an ex-student and received a warm welcome. And, of course, huge thanks to our amazing tutor, Amie Knight, who made it all possible, including the word find puzzle, which was a huge hit!

We had such an enjoyable and fun morning expanding on our knowledge of flax thanks to the tutelage of Whaea Coral. Your generosity in sharing your expertise and time with us is greatly appreciated! #flax #uniqueabilities #knowledge

A closer look at our Christmas tree. Apart from the tinsel and lights the decorations are all handmade. A lot of the decorations have been made by rolling beads from our handmade paper and then gluing them on a polystyrene ball. Much planning and months have work have gone in to making these :)
