A Magnificent Frigatebird (Fregata magnificens) takes advantage of food taken from a gull which harassed in front of our eyes. Known for their excellent flying and gliding skills, these true pirates of the air, may grab other birds by their tail and force them to regurgitate to steal their catch. Many times the victim of the harassment drops their food and the frigatebird grabs it while in the air.

Today our focus is on our Eco-Panama's Adventure program.
Panama is around 63.4% forested, presenting the highest forest cover of any country in Central America. This green coverage sequester on average some 160 tons of carbon per hectare, in a blending mixture of different ecosystems. A tropical landscape of mixed evergreen and deciduous forests, mangroves, wetlands, grasslands and scrubs. On our program we include visits to some of these ecosystems, such as the Cloud Forest, the mangroves and including the disappearing Tropical Dry Forest. Where we enjoy and explore the bast flora and fauna of the isthmus of Panama. The vast forest and ecosystems have attracted for years, scientist from all around the world to do research in Panama. Institutions such as the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute have a permanent presence all over the country for the same reason. In the last years we find a new generation of Panamanian scientist researching and discovering more about the rich biodiversity of the Isthmus. In the image, Panamanian botanist Rodolfo Flores showing a new plant fro science discovered by him and endemic to Santa Fe National Park in Veraguas. About 12.4% of the plants in the isthmus are endemic to Panama. Rodolfo is also a facilitator for The Naturalist Guide Academy, the educational branch of Isthmian Adventures..

The Caribbean sea of Panama and the eastern Pacific after the raising of the isthmus differ considerably in upwelling events. The pacific shows an important upwelling event that brings deep nutrient-rich waters to the surface, reducing the sea surface water temperatures and an increase of primary production in the feeding chain. Offers a high planktonic productivity, with corals and seagrasses found only in very specific areas, specially the Gulf of Chiriquí. Large schools of fish, and the migration of two separate populations of humpback whales close to the pacific coast, make the region a must to explore.

Today our focus is on our Eco-Panama's Adventure program. An important component if the experience, is to practice regenerative travel.
With regenerative travel, the key is to be “active”, taking steps to actively improve the destinations we visit, protecting cultural and natural heritage. For years, many of us have been maintaining sustainable tourism practices not to cause a negative impact on the resources and communities we visit, however, tourism can also give the opportunity to prioritize the regeneration and protection of those resources and communities, keeping in mind to respect their authenticity. Is not just about maintaining for future generations, is about make it better for future generations.
At isthmian Adventures we are “actively” taking the steps to give travelers opportunities to create a positive impact on the destinations and people we encounter, making for them a better future generations. Simple things can make big differences be part of a reforestation project, be part of an educational program that benefits the community or participating in a local beach clean-up, the option can be endless as long we get creative..

Mielero dorsiazul
Shining honeycreeper
(Cyanerpes lucidus)

The beautiful plumage color of some male songbirds has long been explained by scientist as the result of sexual selection: brighter males are more successful as they compete for mates, so evolution favours their spread. Females, by contrast, remain drab.
An interesting new data also shows that polygamous species with males mating with more than one female, by contrast females evolve to become more drab.
