IYKYK - 2 showers is a must! 🇧🇷
According to research by Kantar Worldpanel, Brazil takes the top spot as the most shower-loving country in the world, with its residents showering an average of 14 times a week. 🚿
This far surpasses the global average of five showers per week and the UK’s average of six. While this may suggest Brazilians are more hygiene-conscious, the real reason lies in their climate.
With an average annual temperature of 24.6°C, the constant heat drives more frequent showers, as opposed to cooler countries like the UK, where the average temperature is just 9.3°C.
The study also highlights that showers are more popular than baths worldwide, with 99% of Brazilians showering weekly compared to just 7% who prefer baths.
Time spent in the shower also varies: Brazilians average 10.3 minutes per session, slightly longer than Americans (9.9 minutes) and Brits (9.6 minutes). These habits reflect not just hygiene preferences but also cultural and climatic factors influencing daily routines.

Although deforestation in the Amazon dropped by 16% last year 🌿, the Amazon is still burning, and the fires are growing more intense. While Brazil struggles, the Western Amazon—specifically Peru—is facing record-breaking fire levels. Why is this happening? What’s at stake? Swipe through to uncover the urgent truth behind the flames via
11/09/2024
South America is on fire, experiencing drought conditions that haven’t been seen since 1902, and the Amazon River has reached levels that are sending shockwaves across the globe.
“The fires are out of control,” said Efrain Tinta Guachalla, a socio-territorial investigator at Fundación Tierra, a Bolivian NGO dedicated to sustainable rural development.
While occasional wildfires in Europe and the American West are normal considering the climate, he continued, the humid Amazon is never meant to burn. He says that rainforest flora and fauna are being wiped out at unprecedented rates.
“The fires in California or the fires in Europe, those aren’t the same as the fires in South America. There’s an enormous difference — the loss of biodiversity,” said Guillermo Villalobos, a political scientist focusing on climate science at Bolivian nonprofit Fundación Solon. “Forests like the Amazon are historically tropical forests, meaning they’ve never burned, they’ve never coexisted with the fire. This is terribly tragic for the ecosystem and the world. The Amazon is in its worst state of the last 50 years.”
Here are some facts:
1. The Amazon rainforest historically, has never burned—it’s too wet and humid.
2. So far this year, an area the size of Italy has burned in Brazil. (These fires are mostly started by locals wanting to clear land to raise cattle to supply China, the US, and the EU with beef.)
3. 60% of is covered by smoke
4. In 2024 alone, 160,000 fires have been registered in Brazil.
5. The Amazon river reached its lowest level since records began in 1902.
6. More than 2 million Indigenous people depend on the river for food and transportation, and the drought left entire communities stranded without fuel, food, and drinking water.
7. Fires consume 9% of the worlds LARGEST wetland area, the Pantanal, in .
8. declared a national emergency due to raging forest fires the country’s defense ministry announced last Saturday.

Interesting facts about Brazil! 🇧🇷 by @brexplora
Brazil is the largest country in South America, covering 8.5 million km². It’s divided into 26 states and the Federal District, where the capital, Brasília, is located.
It has six major biomes: the Amazon Rainforest, the largest tropical forest in the world; the Cerrado, a vast savanna; the Pantanal, the biggest wetland on Earth; the Atlantic Forest, one of the most endangered ecosystems; the Caatinga, a semi-arid region; and the Pampa, in the south.
Brazil has the most freshwater in the world, with 12% of the planet’s water resources. The Amazon River is the world’s largest by volume, while the São Francisco River sustains millions in the dry northeast.
Its biggest cities include São Paulo, the economic center; Rio de Janeiro, famous for its beaches and Christ the Redeemer; Brasília, a planned modernist capital; Manaus, deep in the Amazon; and Salvador, the first capital with strong African heritage.
Brazil is also the world’s largest producer of coffee and one of the most biodiverse countries on the planet. From the Iguaçu Falls to the Lençóis Maranhenses, its landscapes are breathtaking.

- 🏠 We stayed in America del Sur hostel & really loved it - it felt like a ski chalet!
🚌 or 🚙
2-3 DAYS
El Chalten, Argentina 🇦🇷
- 🥾There are so many amazing hikes to do from this town. The most popular is Laguna de Los tres (Mount Fitzroy)
- ☕️ This town is so pretty! So many nice cafes & restaurants but it is $$$.
- 🍕We had the most amazing pizza in a restaurant called Laborum
🚌 or 🚙
3-4 DAYS
Puerto Natales (Torres Del Paine), Chile 🇨🇱
- 🥾The most popular trek to do in this area is the multi-day W trek but it can be pretty expensive and you have to book it months in advance! Instead, we opted for day hikes (you can do all of the same hikes included in the W trek if you wanted to!)
- 🩵 One of the most popular day hikes (& also included in the W Trek) is Mirador Base Las Torres.

Visit South America was founded in 2014 by explorer & adventurer, Hilton Davila. His dream was simple: To shed light onto the beauty and culture that is overflowing within South America. With little to nothing to begin with, Hilton has been able to create unforgettable travel experiences across 6 countries for fueled adventure seekers from all over the world. His dream is becoming a reality through the embracing, authentic, and transparent alternative travel Visit South America offers travelers from across the globe.
Ask Questions, Open Minds
When you travel you experience so many new sights, smells, and feelings that instantly have you asking questions. So just think of us as your very own Magic 8 Ball and ask away! We do our absolute best to give you everything you need to know about the places we visit right from the start, but if for whatever reason something seems unclear, be sure to ask and we’ll do what we can to make it crystal. We want you to open your mind and appreciate the culture and landscapes as much as possible, so just like my elementary teacher, Ms. Thomas said, “There is no such thing as a dumb question.” This attitude not only applies to interactions with our travelers but also to our team members, staff, and partners in and out of the office.
Build Lasting and Trusting Relationships
Whether it’s our CEO assisting a new intern or a new group of travelers meeting each other for the first time, we want everyone to be comfortable and most importantly have fun! Our company culture revolves around building relationships between our team as well as building lasting and trusting relationships with you – our travelers! It is very important to us that you to consider your tour leader a friend that you can trust and rely on. Everyone starts out as strangers at the beginning of the adventure, but by the end we become a travel family that spans through cities and countries around the world!
Go Above & Beyonds
Buzz Lightyear ain’t got squat on us. To infinity and beyond isn’t quiiiiite far enough for us. We do everything in our power to make sure expectations are not only met but surpassed, both ours and yours. Need an extra pillow? A new pair of socks, perhaps? Or maybe you aren’t feeling well and would like some soup in bed? Say no more, consider it done. Here are two pillows, a new pair of socks with matching underwear, and soup plus some water bottles and medicine to help cure the illness. Our team members are not only constantly finding ways to go above and beyond for our travelers’ experiences, but also finding ways to bring new ideas to life, company wide.
Dare To Be Different
Being different is a good thing. No scratch that – a GREAT thing. We find that the more diverse a group of travelers is the more room there is for creativity, open mindfulness, and learning. Oh, and loads of fun. Our team is as diverse as it gets from Peruvians to Italians and Bolivians to Americans, we welcome and embrace everyone who join our tours and team. Not only is this projected in our travel groups but also the many people and cultures we encounter along each adventure. And that’s what it’s all about, isn’t it? Connecting different cultures, people, and ideas to create something beautiful. If you’re a little strange, perfect! If not, no problem. In time, we’ll be sure to rub some of our weirdness off on you…
Embrace the Unknown
Traveling is all about exploring the unknown. Insects with ketchup? “Sounds interesting, I’ll take two, and can you add mayo please.” 5,000 meter hikes through crazy types of weather? “I climbed a hill once, but sure I’ll hike it!” On our adventures you’re guaranteed to encounter things you’ve never seen or done before, but be assured that your VSA team is there to guide you the whole way. At the end of your trip we want you to leave with new experiences, new friends, and new perspectives on the world, ‘cause you just experienced an amazing new piece of it.
