((🔴)) : CHINCANA CONNECTS THE QORICANCHA WITH SACSAYHUAMAN, REVEALS RESEARCH BY CUSQUEÑO ARCHAEOLOGISTS
🕵️♂️🚨 A team of Cusco archaeologists recently confirmed the existence of a network of underground Inca tunnels, known as chincanas, which were built and which start from the Temple of the Sun or Qoricancha, located in the historic center of the city of Cusco, and heads towards Sacsayhuamán. There are other branches towards streets such as Muyumarca and Callispuquio.
👉 The directors of the Chincana – Sacsayhuaman Project, archaeologist Jorge Calero Flores, and Mildred Fernández Palomino observed the scientific evidence and research results through the use of technological equipment, including the application of ground-penetrating radars that confirmed the results of the investigations resulting from the analysis of documents from the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries and the results of sound survey studies.
☝️ The main route identified is 1,750 meters long and runs at a depth of between 1.4 and 2.5 meters. In addition, researchers have detected branches that extend this network to other archaeological sectors, which reinforces the cultural and strategic importance of these structures in the history of Tahuantinsuyu.
👉 The next step in this archaeological research in Cusco will be to excavate key points of the network. This stage, scheduled for March and April 2025, seeks to reveal more details about the functionality and extension of the chincanas.
