The Rainbow Mountain of Peru, also known as Vinicunca, are stunning and can be seen on the spectacular Ausangate Trek. Ausangate mountain itself is considered a holy mountain (or mountain spirit) by local Peruvians and is the deity of Cusco. Since pre-Inca times the mountain has been a place of worship and offerings and this tradition continues today.

Most trips that allow you to see the Rainbow Mountains require a trek of at least 6 days. That has changed with this brand new itinerary. We have designed this hike so that it can be done as a day trip!

On this trek you will see quaint villages, beautiful adobe style houses, herds of llamas and alpacas and you will have magnificent views of the Ausangate Glacier (6,385 m / 20,945 ft), the highest mountain in the Cusco region.

With uninterrupted beauty and solitude, this is a spectacular trip for trekkers who love a true outdoor adventure.

The Incas called this the ´Sacred´ Valley because it was there that they developed a rich agricultural society, and built fortresses and different complexes, like Pisac and Ollantaytambo, each place with thousands of stories to tell. Many adventures take place in the Sacred Valley and you can experience different sportive activities such as hiking, canooping or rafting on the Urubamba river. From Ollantaytambo you can take the train to go to Aguas Calientes to spend the night there and visit Machu Picchu. We would be pleased to help you organize any of these arrangements!

LA FIESTA DEL SOL - Jun/ 24th
Inti Raymi is an old Inca festival to worship the sun which ttakes place every year on the 24th of June.

Before the colonial Spaniards banned the ceremonial events occurring each Winter Solstice in Cuzco, the native residents gathered to honor the Sun God, sacrifice an animal to ensure good crops and to pay homage to the Inca, as the first born Son of the Sun.

The ceremonies took place at the winter solstice, when the sun is farthest from the earth. Fearing the lack of sun and ensuing famine, the ancient Incas gathered in Cuzco to honor the Sun God and plead for his return. In 1572, Viceroy Toledo banned Inti Raymi celebrations as contrary to the Catholic faith. Following the edict, the ceremonies went underground. Today, it's the second largest festival in South America. Hundreds of thousands of people come to Cuzco from other parts of the nation, South America and the world for a week long celebration marking the beginning of a new year. There are events every day, expositions, street fairs and people dancing in the streets. The best of Peruvian musical groups come to the Plaza de Armas for free concerts.

The centerpiece of the festival is the all-day celebrations on June 24, the actual day of Inti Raymi. On this day, the ceremonial events begin in the Qorikancha, Here, the Sapa Inca calls on the blessings from the sun. Following the oration, Sapa Inca is carried on a golden throne in a procession to the ancient fortress of Sacsayhuamán, in the hills above Cuzco. With the Sapa Inca come the high priests, garbed in ceremonial robes, then officials of the court, nobles and others, all elaborately costumed according to their rank, with silver and gold ornaments. Once all the celebrants are in place in the grand square of the fortress, there are speeches by Sapa Inca, the priests and other representatives. The ceremony of Inti Raymi ends with a procession back to Cuzco. Sapa Inca and Mama Occla are carried on their thrones, the high priests and representatives of the Supas pronounce blessings on the people.

Inti Raymi is an all-day event, with at least five hours spent at Sacsayhuamán.

Ausangate or Auzangate is a mountain of the Willkanuta mountain range in theAndes of Peru. With an elevation of 6,384 metres it is situated around 100 kilometres southeast of Cusco in theCusco Region, Canchis Province,Pitumarca District, and in theQuispicanchi Province, Ocongate District.

The mountain has significance in Incan mythology.

Every year the Quyllur Rit'i (Quechua for "star snow") festival which attracts thousands of Quechua pilgrims is celebrated about 20 km north of the Ausangate at the mountain Qullqipunku. It takes place one week before theCorpus Christi feast.

The region is inhabited by llama and alpaca herding communities, and constitutes one of the few remaining pastoralist societies in the world. High mountain trails are used by these herders to trade with agricultural communities at lower elevations. Currently, one of these trails, "the road of the Apu Ausangate", is one of the most renowned treks in Peru.

The area has four major geological features, the Andean uplift formed by Granits, the hanging glaciers and glacial erosional valleys, the Permian formation with its singular colors: red, ochre, and turquoise and the Cretaceous, limestone forests.
