We had an amazing views from these vulnerable Andean Flamingos (Phoenicoparrus andinus) Parina Grande. Feeding on a wide variety of small insects, crustaceans, mollusks and other invertebrates, algae, and small seeds. They feed by filtering prey out of shallow water but also will grasp larger prey in their bill. When ponds dry up, flamingos may ingest mud, from which they extract nutrients. Adult annual survival high; birds often live 20-30 years. Highly gregarious throughout year. Monogamous, pair bonds may last for multiple breeding seasons. These beauties were photographed in the southern high Andes of Peru. Join us for an unforgettable birding, wildlife & photography experience on www.amazonbirding.com

All parental duties, such as nest building, incubation and rearing of the Young are carried out solely by females, like this Sparkling Violetear (Colibri coruscans) Oreja-Violeta de Vientre Azul collecting nest material. There are occasional reports of males assisting at the nest during the incubation or feeding stages, but most cases are probably due to misidentification. Nest building in hummingbirds generally takes between five to ten days. This lovely creature was photographed at Santuario de Colibríes Ensifera Ensifera – Cusco.
