Birding the coastal wetlands with this lovely family of Peruvian Thick-knees (Burhinus superciliaris) Alcaraván Huerequeque. A largely nocturnal wader, characterised by large eyes, a broad head and a stout bill. The long legs have an enlarged Knee joint that gives them their name. Active mostly at night but alert in daylight, they are fast runners that feed on animal food lizards to small invertebrates. The female does most of the incubation and the male standing sentinel in the shade at a short distanse. There are nine species in the world, one in Peru!!!
