The Inti Raymi, during the time of the Inca civilization, was a religious ceremony held in honor of Inti, God of the Sun. This celebration began every winter solstice, that is, every month of June and lasted 15 days in the which made different dances and sacrifices.

During the ceremony, the chronicles say, the Inca received the sun on his knees and with open arms. Subsequently, he took a gold cup with his left hand to give his relatives chicha to drink, while with his right hand he poured chicha into a gold jar. Then, after the curacas delivered their offerings, the main priest lit the fire with which the cattle sacrifice was made and to start the festivities, the meat was distributed among all those present.

In the Peruvian case, by 1572 Inti Raymi was prohibited for being considered a pagan festival, however, it continued to be practiced clandestinely. Years later, in 1944, thanks to the historian Humberto Vidal Unda and the writer Faustino Espinoza Navarro, the Inti Raymi was presented again at a public event in which the then President of the Republic of Peru, Manuel Prado Ugarteche, participated. Since then, the celebration began every June 24, therefore, in 1977 Decree Law 21,860 was promulgated through which it was established that this day would be a non-working holiday in the department of Cusco.

Through Law 27,431 of 2001, the Republic of Peru recognized the Inti Raymi as Cultural Heritage of the Nation [4]. Currently, within this territory the celebration of the Inca New Year is a public act that is divided into three main events, the reception of the delegations of the four of them, the meeting of two worlds and the festival of the sun in its splendor.
