Cusco or Qosqo in Quechua was the capital of the Inca Empire called Tawantinsuyo. Cusco, with its special beauty and charm is considered the archeological capital of South America and a cultural legacy of Humanity. With no doubt, Cusco is the most important tourist destination in Peru because of Machu Picchu. The streets of the city are over flowing with our country’s history. One can observe the different stages of the evolution from ancient times until the Conquest and its consequences. It also has several old majestic cathedrals and numerous museums to explore.

Cusco is also the cradle of Machu Picchu, a secret and magic citadel and recently named; one of the seven new Wonders of the world, showing the more refined work of Inca genius. At last, Cusco, in addition to the numerous archeological sites to visit, is one of the most auspicious places to do amazing treks, and discover superb landscapes and more.

On this truly spectacular and special hike – the Vilcabamba to Machu Picchu trek- enjoy a wealth of flora, fauna, snow peaks, impressive valleys while at the same time visiting the last refuge of the Incas – Vilcabamba and it’s archaelogical sites. After we leave the charming village of Huancacalle, we trek along some excellent examples of the Qhapaq Ñan – or royal roads of the Incas before heading off into “unknown territory”. We cross three consecutive passes, often covered in snow before descending to the wonderfully warm jungle. Crossing a great mountain chain, we finally arrive at Machu Picchu. This custom designed itinerary was the first of its kind when Apus Peru started to offer it in 2005. The Vilcabamba trek is one of the hidden treasures in peru!

eru Wild Treks is offering this new route to Waqrapukara ,this trip will take you to a very old temple of the Incas, because it resembles the horns of a bull, although according to historians the real name would be LLaqta Pukara. This Archaeological Complex is composed of extensive agricultural terraces, in the central part, at the highest point in the middle of two natural monoliths is the most important ceremonial site. From this place you can see an immense and deep valley with extraordinary formations, at the bottom of the valley you can hardly see the Apurimac River. When visiting one simply marvels at the same time the impression and the vertigo takes over the visitors.

Nature lovers will be pleased to know that there is a hidden world stunning in the south of Cusco. This area full of local cultural history unexplored by the western world. Located only 3 hours drive from the city of Cusco. The Pumacanchi Lagoons are four impressive lagoons with black colored waters surrounded by lush tropical landscape and impressive limestone formations. Get upclose to the great outdoors with a boat ride on one of the black lakes. Honourable workmanship of the Inca times that has been maintained and carried over into our modern world is the Q’eswachaka (Inca Bridge) spanning across the Apurimac River. Every year residents of the region keep the ancient tradition and skills alive by renewing the bridge annually. Several family groups have each prepared a number of grass-ropes to be formed into cables at the site; others prepare mats for decking. The effort is performed to honor their ancestors and the Pachamama (Earth Mother)

You want to see the stunning colors from the rainbow mountain, but the long hike up Vinicunca scares you? There is a little-known but great alternative. If the hike up Vinicunca is challenging as it is going up a lot, is long, and the altitude can cause problems to some people, the way from Palccoyo is easier, shorter and mostly flat. Moreover, as Palccoyo is a new route, you will also most likely be alone with your group or with a few other groups. Your pictures will then be better, and you will also see three rainbow mountains instead of just one with the classic tour to Vinicunca. This tour is a must-do in the area.
