January is always a bustling month for our commercial team, but we've made it a tradition to pause and invest in something equally important: our annual team retreat.
Last year, we ventured off the beaten path to explore the wonders of Southern Peru. This year, we returned to our roots—revisiting our “core route” to connect with our key partners and incredible resources that make our work so special.

One of the things that I love about living in the Sacred Valley is the huge variety of Mountain Biking routes available.

We were just in “La Maxima”, a well deserved name for an epic 4,900ft vertical descent, starting at almost 14,500ft above sea level all the way through Puna grasslands, charming farms and beautiful native forests down to the very core of the Sacred Valley. SO fun!

With 6 fully equipped capsules hanging over the cliff, this is a rather unique experience for the active traveler. The experience began relaxing at our own hot tub, with a gorgeous sunset over the Sacred Valley. Following a delicious dinner was served at the recently added dining room. Making our way to our capsule was a beautiful little adventure, before we set for the night and spent incredible time watching the stars from the comfort of our beds. The name is very well deserved!!!

The Starlodge experience is designed to be combined with the exciting climb on the Via Ferrata and down on the Zip-Line.

Fishing has always been one of my passions. Unfortunately I don’t get to do it as often as I wanted, which is why this half-day departure was such a delight. Less than an hour drive from home and we were already rafting this beautiful section of the Vilcanota river; breathing pure air and enjoying nature with friends. With plenty of Andean Lakes, glacier creeks and rivers, the Peruvian Andes offer wonderful fishing oportunities!

This past weekend felt like a week of explorations. We didn’t have to drive long, justo a bit more than an hour, and we were already off-the-beaten path, hiking at high-altitude through Ayaco and it’s incredible rock formations!

Spending the night in Zurite village, with it’s giant Inca Terraces, allowed us to start early and walk to Kente Kentiyoc, “the site of the hummingbird”. This is just one of many Inca remains that are spread out through the Inca Trail coming from Cusco and ending up in Machu Picchu.

… and to finish the weekend, “Señor de Choquequilca”, the most important anual festivity in Ollantaytambo, where we shared laughter, joy and dance with old friends!

All in all, feeling very fortunate about “having” to do these explorations that we can share with guests looking to leave the beaten track and connect with what is really authentic about Peru!!!

Travelers are often surprised by the fact that Cusco City and not Machu Picchu was the most important city during the Inca times. Cusco was the capital city where the Incas built their main palaces and temples and ruled as god-kings!

During this day we had the chance to explore the local market, enjoy delicious food at our favorite restaurants, walk the cobblestone streets of traditional neighborhoods and admire the rather unique blend of Inca, Spanish and modern architecture. A beautiful place to say good bye to this wonderful 10-day adventure!

There are many ways to reach Machu Picchu, but our favorite one with no doubt is hiking the Inca Trail! Our FAM Trip group experienced in their own skin that incredibly special moment of watching Machu Picchu for the first time from the mountain pass on the Sun Gate. No crowds, no buses, just us, tired but fully energized by such an incredible day hiking through green mountains, secluded Inca terraces, crystal clear waterfalls, bearing the feeling that we actually earned that first glance of Machu Picchu.

Horseback riding: The terrain and conditions of the Chinchero plateau are just perfect for Peruvian Paso horses to develop their typical and rather unique ambling gait that has earned this breed the fame of being one of the smoothest if not the smoothest rides on earth. 🐴

Our group enjoyed this day very much, feeling the exhilarating rush as we rode through the magic colorful landscapes, surrounded by the majestic beauty of the Andes Mountains. It was a very special day.

Our first day in the Sacred Valley wasn’t over before some in the group started to realize why we encourage travelers to spend multiple days in the Sacred Valley. The magic green mountains from the recent rains and the welcome picnic did help!
