The rainforest we work to protect at our Tambopata Ecolodge, in the heart of South America, is a refuge not just for animals, but also for trees. The biggest tree of the Amazon rainforest is the kapok. It outgrows neighboring species in the essential battle for light fought among all the rainforest’s plants, and for some indigenous peoples it is a link between the earthly and celestial worlds.

When we take our eco-lodge guests into Peru’s Amazon rainforest, we know the places where they’ll have great opportunities to spot many of the animals we help to protect, including birds, monkeys and even –with a little luck- jaguars. At the same time, when we’re out on remote jungle trails we also encourage our guests to look around them at the plants of the rainforest, and to appreciate and learn more about these miniature worlds.

One of the strangest birds in the Amazon rainforest is the hoatzin, with some biologists describing it as a “living fossil”. Genetic research has shown that the hoatzin is the last surviving member of a genus of birds that branched off and evolved separately around 64 million years ago!

This lodge is situated in Amazon rainforest habitat, a short plane ride and a boat trip from Cusco.

Rainforest itineraries include all guided forest trail and boat excursions, transport, airport transfers and meals.
