There's a building being constructed in Bahia de Caraquez that is using 1.6 million blocks of Tetra Pak, a recycled material manufactured here in Ecuador! Is anyone up in Bahia familiar with this building, and can you tell us more?
In the construction of the Spondylus building, located in Bahía de Caráquez, Manabí, more than 630 polyaluminious boards will be used for its exterior walls and the elaboration of the terrace.
This represents the use of approximately 60,500 kilograms of polyaluminum, obtained from the use of more than 1,600,000 Tetra Pak containers after consumption of one liter.
The company Jaragrilsa S.A. is in charge of the work that will be the "first building made of polyaluminous plates".
"The application of boards on the 11 floors of structure allows to show the sector, the range of alternatives existing in the sustainable development of construction. It allows not only the use of materials from recycling, but also represents significant savings in inputs and machinery, which in turn represents a reduction of environmental impact of the work", is indicated in a statement.
The benefit of Ecopak (material of the boards) when applied to real estate projects is significant, because of its resistant, thermoacoustic and environmentally friendly seism characteristics it is an ideal material for a building located in the coastal region of the country.
In addition, no costly maintenance is required, it withstands inclement weather and the environment, such as the accumulation of salt water and sand, as well as avoids the excessive use of ventilation systems, as it maintains a cozy temperature.
The development of this real estate project is carried out together with Ecuaplastic as a transformer company and manufacturer of ecopak, which in turn works in partnership with Tetra Pak®, specialized in food processing and packaging.
It was not detailed when the construction of the building would be completed.
