Regardless of the hardship the people of and this great Nation is facing, there are many reasons to be proud of being a Papua New Guinean, including:
1. Cultural Diversity: Papua New Guinea is one of the most culturally diverse countries in the world, with over 800 (839) languages and numerous traditions that make the nation rich in heritage and identity.
2. Natural Beauty: PNG is home to stunning landscapes, from its pristine beaches and tropical rainforests to towering mountains and unique wildlife, making it a true paradise for nature lovers.
3. Resilient Communities: Papua New Guineans have a deep sense of community, with strong family bonds and mutual support systems that embody the spirit of unity and resilience.
4. Unique Cultural Practices: The country boasts traditional practices such as the vibrant Huli Wigmen, the Asaro Mudmen, and various other dances, festivals, and rituals that have been passed down through generations.
5. Rich Natural Resources: PNG is blessed with abundant natural resources, including minerals, oil, gas, and fertile land, providing opportunities for economic development and self-sufficiency.
6. Independence and Sovereignty: Gaining independence from Australia in 1975, Papua New Guinea has made significant strides in nation-building while maintaining its unique identity and autonomy.
7. Diverse Ecosystems: PNG has some of the most biodiverse ecosystems in the world, with many plant and animal species found nowhere else on Earth, contributing to global conservation efforts. And we proudly showcase that in tourism.
8. Sports Achievements: Papua New Guineans excel in sports like rugby league, with the national team, the Kumuls, bringing pride to the nation through their performances on the international stage.
9. Traditional Arts and Crafts: PNGโs rich artistic traditions, from wood carvings to bilums (woven bags) including coconuts products and even though our government needs to provide an avenue for our fellow painters and artists, all these are highly respected and have gained international recognition for their beauty and craftsmanship.
10. Warm Hospitality: Papua New Guineans are known for their friendliness and warm hospitality, making visitors feel welcome and showcasing the true spirit of the country.
