Sunday, 22nd June – Sir Peter Barter's 3rd Death Anniversary

Every morning I pass through the park on my way to the boat stop, but that morning felt different. As I approached Rotary Park, I could literally picture Sir Peter Barter on his mower, cutting the grass – just like he always did.

I felt both sad and proud.
Sad because we lost a true leader...
Proud because I remember someone who never waited to be asked, never sought praise – he simply got things done.

Most mornings, when the grass was long, you'd see him out there mowing it himself. No big announcements, no camera crews – just humble, quiet service.

Sir Peter wasn’t just a statesman or businessman – he was a true visionary for Madang and Papua New Guinea. His love for this province was evident in everything he did, especially in promoting tourism. He believed in the beauty of our islands, culture, and people – and worked tirelessly to share it with the world.

That’s why we are trying our best to do the same for this beautiful province. To protect it, to share it, and to serve our people with pride – just like he did.

Rest in Love Always, Sir Peter Barter.
A man of service. A man of vision. A man we will never forget.
