Strengthening National Regulatory Systems for Medicines and Vaccines in PNG

WHO in partnership with the National Department of health and Provincial Health Authorities are conducting the Workshop of Self-benchmarking of National Regulatory Authority in Port Moresby this week.

WHO Representative in Papua New Guinea, Dr Sevil Huseynova challenged the partnership to effectively observe and improve regulatory systems. Highlighting how crucial strong systems are for providing access to quality assured medical care and products.

The one-week program will see self-assessment sessions, field visits, and the use of the WHO computerized Global Benchmarking Tool (cGBT) to facilitate the benchmarking process of national regulatory systems by providing a digital platform for assessment and analysis. Promoting regulatory cooperation, convergence, and transparency through networking.

By prioritizing robust regulatory frameworks in Papua New Guinea, we can ensure that medical products are safe, effective, and of high quality, ultimately building trust in healthcare systems, combating Substandard and Falsified (SF) medical products, and improving health outcomes for the population through developing Institutional Development Plans to be implemented in coming years.

Together, we are building a healthier future for Papua New Guinea!

Thank you ICM

On International Day of the Midwife, we recognise not only our critical role in maternal and newborn health but also our impact on the sustainability of health systems worldwide.

Through our advocacy for sustainable birth practices and the provision of essential care, especially in times of crisis, we are a vital climate solution. By empowering mothers and families to make environmentally friendly choices during pregnancy, childbirth, and beyond, we contribute to a healthier future for both communities and the planet.

But to keep up the good work, we need support. That means investment, resources, and a seat at the decision-making table.

So, as we celebrate , let's cheer for our achievements, but also advocate for the changes needed to build a sustainable future.

Happy ! 🌟👶🌱

Today, on the International Day of the Midwives, we gather to celebrate the incredible contributions of midwives around the world. This year, with the theme: "Midwives: A Vital Climate Solution." It highlights the crucial role that midwives play not only in the health and well-being of mothers and newborns but also in the broader context of environmental sustainability and climate action.

Midwives are the unsung heroes of maternal and newborn health, providing essential care and support to women and their families during one of the most vulnerable and transformative periods of their lives. Their expertise, compassion, and dedication save lives, promote health, and empower women to make informed choices about their bodies and their futures.

But today, we also recognize that midwives are more than just healthcare providers. They are key agents of change in the fight against climate change. The impact of climate change on maternal and newborn health is significant and far-reaching. From extreme weather events to food and water insecurity, climate change exacerbates existing health disparities and poses unique challenges to pregnant women and newborns.

Midwives are uniquely positioned to address these challenges and mitigate the impact of climate change on maternal and newborn health. By promoting sustainable practices in healthcare, advocating for policies that protect the environment, and empowering communities to adapt to a changing climate, midwives are not just caregivers – they ar
