The Balay San Nicolas, formerly Valdes-Lardizabal house, one of the oldest and most imposing heritage houses in Ilocos Norte, is majestically standing west of the plaza. It possesses an exceptional cultural, artistic and historical significance to the Philippines as having been declared an Important Cultural Property by the National Museum on December 23, 2015. It is believed to have been constructed in early 1800s.

The municipality through the Valdez administration acquired the heritage property in 2015, and collaborated with Dr. Joven R. Cuanang, renowned Neurologist and art patron and the San Nicolas Express Bin-I Foundation, Inc., for the conservation of the property guided by the principle of adaptive reuse.
