The municipality came alive with vibrant colors and festivities as the Banig sa Badian Festival 2024 concluded with resounding success. Celebrated annually, this year's event was particularly special, drawing larger crowds and showcasing an array of cultural presentations that highlighted the rich heritage and craftsmanship of the local community.
The festival, held on July 20, 2024, was graced by the presence of several distinguished guests. Among them were Mayor Carmencita L. Lumain and other municipal officials who have been pivotal in promoting and supporting local traditions. The event also saw the attendance of Board Member Red Duterte and Board Member Sarsi Baricuatro, whose presence added to the prestige of the celebration.
Mayor Carmen Lumain, in her opening remarks, expressed her gratitude to the community for their unwavering support and participation. "The Banig sa Badian Festival is a testament to our unity and our pride in our cultural heritage which had brought the Banig industry to the world. Thus, this year's theme is "Banig: From Badian to the World".
The festival featured a variety of activities that captivated both locals and tourists. The highlight of the event was the traditional banig (woven mat) making competition, which showcased the intricate craftsmanship and creativity of the weavers. Participants demonstrated their skills in creating beautiful and functional mats, a craft that has been passed down through generations.
In addition to the weaving competition, the festival included a colorful parade with participants dressed in traditional attire, cultural dances, and musical performances that reflected the unique identity of Badian.
