Malacañang recently declared Monday, September 2, 2024 as a special non-working day in Baguio City in celebration of the city’s 115th Charter anniversary on Sunday, September 1, 2024.

Proclamation No. 641 signed by Executive Secretary Lucas P. Bersamin by authority of President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. which was issued on July 29, 2024 stated that it is but fitting and proper that the city’s populace be given full opportunity to participate in the important occasion and enjoy the celebration of the city’s Charter anniversary and the activities lined up for the same.

Earlier, the Office of the City Mayor requested the Office of the President that Monday, September 2, 2024 be declared as a special non-working day in the city in lieu of Sunday, September 1, 2024 to enable the city’s residents to fully participate in the said occasion.

Republic Act (RA) 6710 declared every September 1 as Baguio Charter Day and a special non-working day in the city to commemorate the city’s founding anniversary.

However, the celebration of the city’s Charter anniversary this year falls on a Sunday, September 1, 2024, thus, the aforesaid request.

On September 1, 1909, The Philippine Commission declared Baguio City as the country’s second chartered city during a session held right at the heart of the city. By Dexter A. See
