TODAY NOV 7- 5pm BAGUIO WEATHER UPDATE: TYPHOON “MARCE”

“MARCE” has made landfall in Cagayan & it is Signal #4 in those parts plus many areas in Northern Luzon (Photo 2) 😢.
PAG-ASA has warned of “POTENTIALLY LIFE-THREATENING CONDITIONS due to typhoon-force winds, storm surge inundation, and torrential rainfall” in the Babuyan Islands and northern Cagayan, Ilocos Norte, and Apayao.

Many other areas are under Signals #2 & 3 (Photos 3, 4).

In Baguio, it is Signal #1 (Photo 5) & the predicted rainfall for Benguet-Baguio is moderate to heavy rainfall from today afternoon till tomorrow afternoon (Photo 6). The rains though have stopped (temporarily?) at Chirping Birds mid afternoon & this is how skies here look like right now (Photo 1).

We pray for everyone esp our friends in Cagayan & areas under Signal #4 🌸. Let’s all continue to monitor official Dost_pagasa.

Who profoundly loved our culture & country
Whose kindness was as beautiful as his art.

As far as we could remember, Papemelroti was always our happy place. And when we started Chirping Birds, we bought items from their stores bearing Sir Robert’s art which we used in our Transient Homes. See the Tea Pots & Tea Cups on Robin’s first signboard? We also use their door hangers - photo of the Kuwago rooms.
We were particularly enamored by his Philippine collection, especially those featuring the jeepney & familiar figures like Manong magtataho or Aling tindera ng isda.

One day, we had a guest who happened to be Sir Robert’s friend who relayed to him that his items were being used in our homes. Our guest informed us that Sir Robert was delighted that his art products were being used in such far away places. We msgd Sir Robert to thank him & were thrilled he replied & started to chat with us. Beyond his enormous talent, we were struck that he was such a gentle & kind soul.

Our hearts are heavy for one gone too soon. A nation will forever be grateful for the talent & love that you shared.

🎃🤡👹🤠 IT WAS A HALLOWEEN TREAT !
Yesterday, it was so fun to don our DIY costumes & make-up to welcome our Hillside Brgy children & their young-at-heart parents at the Trick or Treat starting point, right at the Chirping Birds doorstep. Truly community-organized, brgy officials & families again came together to stage this annual event.

It was ultimate proof that a lot of love & fun make for a memorable Halloween, not expensive costumes alone !

OCT 30- 11am BAGUIO WEATHER UPDATE: TYPHOON “LEON”

Hello, everyone! It is Signal # 1 for Benguet-Baguio & classes are suspended in the city for Pre-school to Senior High.
This is how our skies are looking here at Chirping Birds (Photo 1). We have right now moderate rains as predicted by PAG -ASA for Benguet today in their Heavy Rainfall Outlook (Photo 2).

Typhoon “Leon” is moving northeastward towards Taiwan. It is expected to exit Phil Area of Responsibility tomorrow evening or Friday morning. But before that, when the center is closest to Batanes tomorrow morning, Leon is predicted to have close to Super Typhoon intensity (Photo 3).

Did you know that Phil is the country which is the World’s Most At Risk to Disasters, and for the 3rd year in a row now in 2024 😳. More on this in next post.

This year, the fun Trick or Treat again STARTS RIGHT AT OUR CHIRPING BIRDS GATE on Oct 31 at 3pm ! We’re so excited once more to welcome some 150 witches & warlocks, monsters & manga, princes & princesses, ghosts & ghouls of all sorts & sizes. Together with our Halloween Mascot, the dancing skeleton Vladimir, we too wear our costumes - can you spot Kuya Randy? A Masquerade Ball will cap the day at the Hillside Plaza 7pm. JOIN THE FUN !!!

☔️💦 OCT 25-5 pm BAGUIO WEATHER UPDATE: SEVERE TROPICAL STORM “KRISTINE”

How were last night & today for you? We are very sorry to hear about the casualties & damages especially to the Bicol Region.

“Kristine” is currently over the coastal waters of Ilocos Sur. Over here in Baguio, the predicted heavy to intense rainfall from last night to Friday evening has been downgraded to moderate to heavy from today till tomorrow afternoon (Photo 1). Baguio/Benguet is now down to Signal #2 while Metro Manila is also down to Signal #1. This is how the skies are looking now at Chirping Birds (Photo 2).

Yesterday we evacuated to safer grounds our fragile plants like Kuya Randy’s patch of Orchids & the Firesticks which normally sit on our ledge (Photos 3-4). Today we moved other plants for free dilig from the rain (Photo 5).

We are thankful the storm so far was not as severe as expected in Baguio & continue to pray for everyone’s safety.

BAGUIO WEATHER UPDATE: SEVERE TROPICAL STORM “KRISTINE”
It is 10:15 pm & we still have slight showers at this time in most parts of Baguio including here at Chirping Birds. Except for the drizzle, it is eerily quiet, the proverbial calm before the storm 🥺.

“Krisitne” is forecast to make landfall over Isabela tonight or tomorrow early morning & will be moving westward quite near Baguio over the next 2-3 days with max sustained winds of 95km/hr near center (Photos 1-2).

Benguet, like large swathes of northwestern Luzon, is currently under Signal No. 3, while Metro Manila has Signal No. 2 (Photo 3). Heavy to Intense rains are expected in the Cordillera Administrative Region tonight until Friday evening (Photo 4).

Many areas in the country are affected. HOPE EVERYONE HAS PREPARED. PLS MONITOR & BE SAFE, ALL !

Here at UP Baguio, waiting for the forum on BAGUIO CITY’s BIODIVERSITY GREENPRINT to start.

🌲🦜 Patok ang Baguio bilang tirahan at tourist destination dahil sa kanyang natatanging ecology & biodiversity.

We at Chirping Birds give best efforts to get involved in
ECOLOGICAL CONSERVATION & SUSTAINABLE TOURISM which are important to us as Baguio citizens & transient services providers.
( Earlier, we also attended an event on Baguio’s Urban Carrying Capacity. After that, we had a chat with our city mayor Magalong= we will share with you in another post = stay tuned ! )

Some things we learned/confirmed in this forum:
-“rapid urban growth results in the loss of vital ecosystems that support a wide range of animals & plants.” It is feared that in 10 yrs time, the city’s green spaces will be severely depleted.
-the city is facing several livability challenges besides ecological degradation. Obvious examples: traffic situation & water quality.
-3 of the 28 protected Key Biodiversity Areas in the Phils. are in the Cordilleras: Mt Pulag Natl Park, Balbalasang-Balbalan Natl Park & Apayao Lowland Forest.
-Camp John Hay (which is 8mins by car from Chirping Birds 😉) is the largest remaining urban green space in Baguio.
-When planting, think of life forms which will be affected. Best to use non invasive native species. One of the most common non native invasive plant in the city is the African Tulip which inhibits the growth of our pine trees.

🌳🌲🪴 WHAT IS BAGUIO WITHOUT REFRESHING PLANTS?
Our garden is far from manicured & we’re not on scientific name basis with our plants. But we love our flora!
It is very important for us to keep a garden & have indoor plants because plants clean the air we breathe, deflect noise, combat heat, boost our moods & reduce stress. In our case, our plants also frame our overlooking views.

Finally our first post in what seems like ages 🥳.
We thank all our guests & friends who kept us very busy hehehe. 💃🏼🕺🏼

Today is the last day of August, a special month when we celebrate the birthday of your helpful & friendly Chirping Birds host, Kuya Randy!
This year, he had 2 get-togethers (Ikaw na, Kuya Randy 🎂🥂) & one of them was held at our View Deck 1 below. Need we say the view is great, but bonding here with friends & kin is even greater! 😍

Did you know Kuya Randy speaks Ilonggo, Bisaya, Ilocano & Pangasinense aside from Tagalog & English? So you can approach him in whatever you’re comfortable with! 😉

And since BER months are upon us, watch out for our indoors & outdoors NEW DECORS to welcome you like a warm hug this cold season. ABANGAN!

🐱 🐈 🐱 🐈 Someone said that you can gauge the character of a society by the way they treat their animals 🤩.

Posting for a friend, a true cat lover who can’t help but rescue poor strays in the city needing warm & caring homes. One of her rescues was pregnant & has since given birth to 3 lovable kitties now up for adoption.

Alam po naming hindi lahat ay may panahon o gustong magkaroon ng alaga/pet. From our experience though, our 3 cats & 3 dogs at home (all rescues or adopted) have given us lots of joy. Pls consider adopting one of these loyal companions 💝.
