Chasing the Wind and Waves Part 5 - On the way back from #BalacayPoint, we pass by some vibrant green #ricefields. In Part 3, we showed the #AbacaFestival which features the main agricultural product of #Catanduanes, the #abaca. But aside from that, Catanduanes also produces food crops like rice. That’s why you can see a lot of paddies on the island.Still in #Baras, we went down to the surfing capital of Catanduanes, the #PuraranBeach, to see some #surfing action.Facing the #PacificOcean, it is home for the so-called ‘#MajesticWaves’ which produces perfect barrels. We saw a few locals and foreign tourists enjoying the nice #waves of Puraran. Can’t wait for the peak season which starts in July until October when they also have competitions. Also, as the island is known as ‘The Land of the Howling Winds’, it usually feels the wrath of typhoons coming in.The typhoon that passed by gave the beach wind and Madis was able to do some #kitesurfing at Puraran Beach. We’re excited to experience more and see how kitesurfing scenery plays out here especially playing with the good waves. We’ll show more of Catanduanes and search for other spots in Part 6!
Chasing the Wind and Waves Part 4. We completed the #kitesurfing land lessons for those #surfer girls which included flying the trainer kite, theory about the wind and water conditions, kite control, wind window and power zone and safety. Also, we showed them how to set up the kites. Thanks a lot to these really cool girls! The day goes on and there’s still much to see on the island. So we went on a #roadtrip to explore more of the scenic spots in #Catanduanes.Driving through the roads of #Baras you can see inspiring mountain and sea views. One of the best views in the area is #BalacayPoint.Up there, you can see #PuraranBeach and serene views of the town nearby. It is blessed by stunning cliff formations.Definitely a must-see on the island!Nearby was one of the most popular #waterfalls located in #Gigmoto - the #NahuluganFalls. This waterfall is covered by lush green trees. Nice cold water and rock formation too!We just can’t get enough of the #nature Catanduanes has to offer!Make sure to watch part 5 to see some #surfing and #kiteboarding in Puraran Beach!
Chasing the Wind and Waves Part 3 - The #Philippines is also known for its colorful #festivals. You can see how much effort people of #Catanduanes had given into making the #AbacaFestival to be a beautiful event. Very nice costumes, #streetdancing and performances from 8 municipalities of the island. Each has expressed their creativity and concept to also promote their own municipality. But the one thing in common is they all feature one of Catanduanes main agricultural products, the #abaca. Catanduanes is the world’s abaca capital and the province’s main industries aside from agriculture are forestry and fishing. No wonder why you can see fishermen here catch really big fishes just right of the shore. We enjoyed plenty of cheap and yummy seafood especially in #Puraran, the surfing capital of Catanduanes.Glassy clean waves for surfers on this beach! Imagine just #surfing with a scenic view! You will be stoked everyday! We were honored to meet a group of #surfergirls who are also interested in learning #kitesurfing. Stay tuned for Part 4 to see how the kitesurfing lesson with the girls go and some more of exploring the #HappyIsland!
Chasing the wind and waves ( Part 2 ) Approaching #Catanduanes Island, we were amazed to still see the #Mayon #Volcano so clearly, plus seeing from afar those green mountains and cream colored sand #beaches of Catanduanes. It was very calming and we just can’t wait to be there!Arriving at the island, we drove around the #Virac first to see the city, get some food and take a breath. Much needed after a long journey from #Visayas. It was entertaining to catch a beauty contest. You can instantly see the vibe of the Happy Island. We drove up to #Baras and found a really good place to stay. Nice view, with good billiards and chillout space.Waking up in this area is like magic. Just pure nature. With the carabaos, birds chirping and the sound of the waves.Everywhere you drive around the island, views are just breathtaking. Also seeing some activities from the locals especially the kids. Most of them are still shy to see a traveler or tourist. We were able to have some local kids try the trainer kite in #Bagamanoc near the fertility island.Very lucky to witness their #Abaca #Festival too! Watch Part 3 to see more of this festival and also the main goal for coming to this island.
Aloha!! Surfzone’s first #amihan season in #Siquijor has been amazing. We had over 150 happy students and visitor #kiters who had great #kitesurfing sessions with us.While waiting for #Habagat, we decided to go for a little #road trip to discover some new #kitesurfingdestinations in the #Philippines. Happy to take you on our journey! From Siquijor, we, together with #Surfzone dog, Luna, took a ferry going to #Cebu. Our first stop in Cebu Island is the Basdako white beach #Moalboal . Very nice beach but unfortunately, the coast guard said it is not allowed to go in the water to do kitesurfing. So instead we just taught some locals how to fly the trainer kite on the #beach.Moved forward, checked some stuff in the queen city of the south, just drove along the coastline, and decided to go to the #Bicol Region.Took the ferry from #Maya Port in the north of Cebu and after 11 hours, finally we arrived in #Matnog #Sorsogon!Amazing #Bulusan #Volcano view greeted us. Checked the small #surf town in #Gubat. There was some wind for bigger kites and #waves and a huge #beach but unfortunately, we did not find a suitable accommodation so we only stayed for a day.We kept going and visited the famous #Mayon #Volcano in #Albay. The road took us to a ferry going to #Catanduanes which we heard so many good things about.Don’t forget to check out part 2 see what we found!#roadtripphilippines #underratedbicol
