BIYAHENG CARAGA: Tinuy-an Falls, Bislig City, Surigao del Sur
From pristine beaches with unique shorelines to exciting surfing spots in the region. Are you ready to explore some of Caraga's best waterfalls?
Located at Brgy. Borboanan, Bislig, Surigao del Sur, the Tinuy-an Falls is considered by the locals as the Crown Jewel of Surigao del Sur and the Little Niagara Falls of the Philippines.
This 95-meter wide and 180-foot high waterfall is a gem because of its curtain of water cascading down a four-tier drop.
Tinuy-an is derived from the Cebuano word Tinuyo-an, which means "intentional act or performance to attain an objective or goal." In the Filipino context, it can also mean babalik-balikan, or "a place you'll return to."
This waterfall was designated as one of three protected areas in the Caraga region in 2018 by Republic Act No. 11038, also known as the Expanded National Integrated Protected Areas System Act of 2018.
The Tinuy-an Falls is said to be home to 91 species of animals, including birds, mammals, amphibians, reptiles, freshwater fish, and crustaceans, as well as 144 species of flora, 33 of which are endangered species.
You can make your visit to Tinuy-an more enjoyable by riding a bamboo raft to get closer to the base and enjoy the water's plunge. Then, proceed to the Tinuy-an's second and third levels, where you can sit or lean on a rock and let the water massage your back.
HOW TO GET THERE?
If you are coming from Butuan City, you can take a bus or any form of transportation bound for Mangagoy, part of Bislig.
