Patunob comes from the local word that means “to be stepped on”. Devotees from near and far gather at the parish church and shrine to seek blessings, healing, and divine favors from the patroness. It is a day filled with prayers, hope, and unwavering faith in the power of the Blessed Mother’s intercession.

The Patunob Festival, celebrated every second week of February at the Our Lady of Lourdes Shrine in Binuangan, takes its name from the Visayan word "Patunob," which means "to step on." This refers to the unique healing ritual where the image of the Virgin Mary is gently placed on the heads and shoulders of supplicants, symbolizing a spiritual blessing. The festival, a joyful and vibrant event, includes processions, marching bands, exhibitions, and street dancing. Pilgrims gather in Binuangan to honor the Virgin Mary, whose miraculous image was discovered by a spring inside a cave in the late 19th century, marking the start of a tradition that continues to bring healing and hope to many.

The Municipal Government of Magsaysay, led by Hon. Charlie B. Buhisan, hosted an inspiring Mini Talk Show at the Cabubuhan Barangay Hall titled “Digital Nomad Tourism 101: Building Careers Beyond Borders.” The event featured Kach Umandap, a digital nomad from San Pablo City, Laguna.

At just 36 years old, Kach achieved the incredible milestone of visiting all 193 United Nations (UN)-recognized countries and two observer states using only a Philippine passport! Her journey highlights not only her remarkable accomplishments but also her advocacy to empower fellow Filipinos.

During the talk, Kach introduced the concept of Digital Nomad Tourism to the town of Magsaysay, particularly in Brgy. Tama. This initiative aims to create livelihood opportunities through digital jobs, paving the way for economic growth and sustainable tourism.

What an inspiring encounter! ❤️

We had the privilege of meeting Kach Umandap of Two Monkeys Travel, a digital nomad from San Pablo City, Laguna, who made history as the first and youngest Filipino to travel to all 193 United Nations (UN)-recognized countries and two observer states using only a Philippine passport. At just 36 years old, her journey is a testament to resilience, determination, and her deep advocacy for fellow Filipinos.

Kach is also here to introduce her digital nomad initiative in Magsaysay, particularly in remote areas such as Brgy. Tama, to provide livelihood opportunities through digital jobs.

To honor her visit, we presented her with a token featuring a selection of Misamis Oriental’s finest local products—a heartfelt way to share the culture and flavors of our province.

LOOK | Yesterday, the Provincial Government of Misamis Oriental solemnly marked the 27th Commemoration of the Cebu Pacific Flight 387 tragedy at the Flight 387 Shrine in Mt. Sumagaya. This heartfelt ceremony paid tribute to the 104 lives lost in the fateful crash, reminding us of the enduring strength of unity and remembrance.

Through prayers, floral offerings, and moments of silence, we honored their memory, reaffirming our commitment to never forget this chapter of our province’s history. May their legacy continue to inspire resilience and hope in us all.
