This can be YOUR story, so please heed our warning: when you leave your country, pack in your suitcase, COMMON SENSE as well.
We are not proud of the fact that SOME Filipinas give "love" for money just as some men give "love" for s*x. However, that's how things are for some of us: we teach others how to treat us.
How come, most retirees/old men prefer the "young and the restless" instead of forging real and sincere relationships with women their age, or just a few years younger? Isn't this taking advantage of the vulnerability and gullibility of the young? If you play, you will get played.
Filipinas are by nature loving and nurturing. Basically, we marry for love, and not for money, although it would be nice if you have both. lol We are loyal, faithful, and honest. Until men with ill intentions came along, taught us life's lessons the hard way, or even paid for them at a very high price.
Some Filipinas ended up dead abroad in exchange for insurance money. Some ended up brutally tortured and killed by their foreigner-husbands so they could marry someone else. Statistics are quite high on sob stories like these.
So, maybe you can't fault some Filipinas for learning how to dance with the wolves, can you? Regretfully, there is collateral damage: well-meaning YOU who came to the Philippines with the sincere intention of finding your mate, and living your happily ever after under the canopy of ...coconuts! lol
That's where your power of DISCERNMENT and COMMON SENSE can save you! Never divorce from your purse strings/credit card. Never hand in your money to someone else, no matter how many halos you imagine on top of their heads. BETTER BE WARY THAN SORRY.
If you came here to look for a potential life partner because the one you had back home didn't work, well, you could at least look BETTER. A decent woman/man doesn't frequent bars or nightclubs because they get to work the next day. A decent woman or man has at least achieved some degree of education, is quite proud of not depending on a foreigner for the basic necessities of life, isn't afraid of work, and has some values. And morale.
But if you focus on the 36-26-36, a pretty face, and the excitement of her youth, how far can these go? Better question: how far can YOU go? Soon, no matter how you camouflage your advancing years with hair dyes and supplements, old age will catch up with you. Hoping that when it does, your 36-26-36 pride and most especially, your pension are still with you.
Otherwise, you would end up like Mr. Welsh. God forbid.
You've been warned.
