This can be YOUR story, so please heed our warning: when you leave your country, pack in your suitcase, COMMON SENSE as well.

We are not proud of the fact that SOME Filipinas give "love" for money just as some men give "love" for s*x. However, that's how things are for some of us: we teach others how to treat us.

How come, most retirees/old men prefer the "young and the restless" instead of forging real and sincere relationships with women their age, or just a few years younger? Isn't this taking advantage of the vulnerability and gullibility of the young? If you play, you will get played.

Filipinas are by nature loving and nurturing. Basically, we marry for love, and not for money, although it would be nice if you have both. lol We are loyal, faithful, and honest. Until men with ill intentions came along, taught us life's lessons the hard way, or even paid for them at a very high price.

Some Filipinas ended up dead abroad in exchange for insurance money. Some ended up brutally tortured and killed by their foreigner-husbands so they could marry someone else. Statistics are quite high on sob stories like these.

So, maybe you can't fault some Filipinas for learning how to dance with the wolves, can you? Regretfully, there is collateral damage: well-meaning YOU who came to the Philippines with the sincere intention of finding your mate, and living your happily ever after under the canopy of ...coconuts! lol

That's where your power of DISCERNMENT and COMMON SENSE can save you! Never divorce from your purse strings/credit card. Never hand in your money to someone else, no matter how many halos you imagine on top of their heads. BETTER BE WARY THAN SORRY.

If you came here to look for a potential life partner because the one you had back home didn't work, well, you could at least look BETTER. A decent woman/man doesn't frequent bars or nightclubs because they get to work the next day. A decent woman or man has at least achieved some degree of education, is quite proud of not depending on a foreigner for the basic necessities of life, isn't afraid of work, and has some values. And morale.

But if you focus on the 36-26-36, a pretty face, and the excitement of her youth, how far can these go? Better question: how far can YOU go? Soon, no matter how you camouflage your advancing years with hair dyes and supplements, old age will catch up with you. Hoping that when it does, your 36-26-36 pride and most especially, your pension are still with you.

Otherwise, you would end up like Mr. Welsh. God forbid.

You've been warned.

REMINDER TO ALL FOREIGNERS WHO ARE STAYING IN CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY AND NEARBY TOWNS, MOST ESP. READERS/AUDIENCE OF THIS SITE:

Please DO NOT part with your cash without conducting research or checking out the veracity/truthfulness of a promise/product, in exchange for your cash. COMMON SENSE would tell you, you should: a) demand a government-issued ID to verify the true identity of the person you are conducting business with; b.) NEVER rely on a promise to deliver; choose a Cash-Upon-Delivery Option (you part with your money only AFTER you have received and checked the item/s. c.) demand an Official Receipt, at all times. If an Official Receipt is not available, and the other party purports to be a businessman, then he is a WALKING RED FLAG. Abort all transactions with him. Our courts DO NOT give weight to hearsays; there should be evidence that indeed an exchange happened (ex. money to a promise of delivery).

For your information and guidance.

June is here, and you know what that means: it's time to go on vacation!

The Philippines has opened its doors to fully-vaccinated and boosted visitors, which means that if you meet these two requirements, you're free to frolic at our beaches and try our delicious delicacies.

If you have family or friends in Cagayan de Oro and you can't wait to see them this June, we're here to help you with some lodging advice.

Should you stay at a hotel or a condo/Airbnb?

If you ask us, it really depends on your needs. If you are traveling to Cagayan de Oro for business or work, you might want to stay at a location where you won't have to worry about your internet connection, power, or water. You might also want to stay somewhere where 24/7 assistance from a receptionist or concierge is guaranteed. In this case, the best lodging for you would be in hotels.

However, if you are visiting the City of Golden Friendship purely for leisure, we recommend staying at a condominium.

Hop on Airbnb and you'll find these four popular options:

If you want to stay downtown, your best picks are Centrio, Avida, and Mesaverte. The Loop and OneOasis may be good alternatives if the aforementioned condos are no longer available.

If you want to stay uptown, your best picks are GranVia and PrimaVera.

Why do we recommend these condos? One, they are all located within proximity to a mall, where you can easily shop for food and other essentials. In a city like CdeO, where streets are often busy (read: tons of cars and traffic), you would want to stay somewhere close to a mall that you can literally just walk to.

Two, we recommend these condos is because you can take a shuttle to and from Laguindingan Airport from these areas. The meeting points for airport shuttles are SM Uptown (near PrimaVera and GranVia), SM Downtown (Mesaverte and Centrio Towers I and II), and Ayala Malls-Centrio (Centrio Towers I and II). There is only one shuttle service plying the Laguindingan-LimKetKai route at this time, which is why we would consider One Oasis and the Loop alternatives if you can't find a rental at Centrio, PrimaVera, GranVia, and Mesaverte.
