Travel from Madrid to Toledo, a national monument to Spain's art and history, and discover a treasure trove of El Greco artworks. Experience Toledo’s past on a guided walk along cobblestone alleyways, and explore this World Heritage-listed city’s medieval architecture and fortified city walls. Your guided city tour takes you along the labyrinth of laneways winding through the medieval walled town. Your tour guide will point out the city’s Arabic, Mudejar Gothic and Renaissance architecture, evidence of the city’s Roman origins, Moorish influences and Baroque grandeur as the former capital ofSpain. Afterwards, afternoon free time for shopping before returning to your hotel.
DAY 04 APR 15 – MADRID – AVILA – MADRID
Avila is known as the City of Stones and Saints, and you’ll understand why after touring this fortified town that dates back to the 11th century. Before you enter the 11th-century stone walls of Avila, stop at Los Cuatro Postes, at the top of a hill, to take photos of expansive vistas over the city. With its dozens of church towers and Gothic buildings, it’s no wonder Avila has been named a UNESCO ‘Heritage of Mankind’ city. It’s as if a storybook has come to life in Avila, with its 90 fortified towers and turrets. Mystic writer Saint Teresa of Jesus (1515-82) was born in this ancient city, so it is a significant pilgrimage site for many Spaniards. You’ll get a closer look at two of the churches – examples of Romanesque and Gothic architecture – to learn still more about this walled city’s fascinating history, with visits to San Vicente Basilica and Avila’s massive cathedral, known for its alabaster tombs and chapels.
DAY 05 APR 16 – MADRID – ZARAGOZA
After breakfast, you will be transferred to Zaragoza visiting our Lady of Pillar. Tradition dates the origin of the Our Lady of Pilar shrine to the year 40 A.D., when St. James the Apostle was sitting here on the bank of the Ebro River,region. This is where The Virgin Mary appeared to him and reassured him that his efforts would not be in vain. In the afternoon check into your hotel and have some free time at leisure.
DAY 06 APR 17 – ZARAGOZA – BARCELONA
Say goodbye to Zaragoza and move onwards to Barcelona. After having some free time for lunch, proceed for a tour of the Sagrada Familia, one of Gaudi’s finest architectural masterpieces which up to date has not been finished. Then have a panoramic sightseeing tour of Barcelona where you will get the chance to pass by the Gothic Quarter and Las Ramblas.
DAY 07 APR 18–BARCELONA–MONTSERRAT –LA ROCA–BARCELONA
Breakfast inside the hotel, then you will have a half-day sightseeing tour of Monserrat, which includes the Monserrat Monastery. The sanctuary of the Virgin Mary of Montserrat, has its historical origins in the hermitage of Santa Maria, which Count Guifré el Pelós gave to the Monastery of Ripoll in the year 888. In the afternoon, have some free time for shopping at La Roca Outlet Village.
DAY 08 APR 19 – BARCELONA – GIRONA – BARCELONA
The ancient walled city of Girona stands on a fortress-like hill, high above the confluence of the Onyar and Ter rivers. This extensive visit will show you the most important monuments of Girona, its history, its Jewish heritage and also it Legends. Sites such as St. Feliu Church, Girona Cathedral, Arabian Baths and the gothic palaces of Ciutadans street will be passed by. In the afternoon, return to Barcelona where you will have some free time to explore the city.
DAY 09 APR 20 – BARCELONA
After breakfast, you will have a half day sightseeing tour of Barcelona, visiting Park Guelle and Olympic Village then afternoon back to Barcelona for shopping to the max at Las Ramblas. Then back to the hotel.
DAY 10 APR 21 – BARCELONA DEPARTURE
