: PNR to Resume Naga-Legazpi Train Service on February 26

The Philippine National Railways (PNR) has announced the resumption of its Naga-Legazpi route in the Bicol Region, starting February 26, 2025. This 100-kilometer service will provide daily trips, with the first train departing from Legazpi at 4:49 a.m. and the return journey from Naga at 5:30 p.m.

Fares range from ₱15 to ₱155, with discounts available for senior citizens, students, and persons with disabilities upon presentation of valid identification. The route includes stops at 16 stations: Naga, Pili, Baao, Iriga, Lourdes, Bato, Matacon, Polangui, Oas, Ligao, Travesia, Daraga, Bagtang, Washington Drive, Capantawan, and Legazpi.

This service was initially reopened on December 27, 2023, after a six-year suspension due to a shortage of train coaches and locomotives. However, operations were halted again on November 7, 2024, following damage from Tropical Storm Kristine. After extensive repairs and rehabilitation, PNR is set to resume this vital service, enhancing connectivity and providing a reliable transportation option for residents and travelers in the region.

St. Valentine was a Christian priest and martyr who lived during the Roman Empire in the 3rd century. Under the rule of Emperor Claudius II, he defied a decree that prohibited soldiers from marrying, believing that single men made better warriors. Valentine secretly performed Christian weddings for these soldiers, which led to his arrest. His commitment to love and faith made him a symbol of defiance against unjust laws that restricted personal freedom and devotion.

While imprisoned, Valentine was said to have healed the blind daughter of his jailer, Asterius, a miracle that further spread his reputation for compassion and divine favor. Before his ex*****on, he allegedly sent her a note signed “from your Valentine,” which became one of the earliest connections between Valentine and romantic expression. He was executed on February 14, around the year 269 AD, becoming a martyr for both love and Christianity.

Over time, St. Valentine became the patron saint of lovers, and his feast day evolved into a celebration of romance and affection. The tradition of exchanging love letters, flowers, and tokens of appreciation on February 14 is believed to have originated from his legacy. Though historical details about his life remain debated, his story continues to inspire people to cherish love, kindness, and selfless devotion.
