A Lesson for Frequent Flyers: Beware of Over-Friendly Passengers

On a flight to Dubai, an older lady sat next to me. She politely asked for help with her luggage, but a kind gentleman across the aisle assisted her instead. As I’m not tall, I avoid the overhead compartments whenever possible.

Once seated, she immediately started a pleasant conversation. She was friendly, and we chatted throughout the flight. However, as we began our descent into Dubai, she suddenly complained of severe stomach pains. Concerned, I called for the flight attendant, who provided some basic assistance. The lady then started calling me “my daughter,” clinging to my hand. It seemed everyone assumed we were related.

When we landed, the gentleman who had helped earlier removed her bag and quietly advised me to keep my distance and clarify to the crew that we were not traveling together. His warning proved invaluable.

The cabin crew asked if we were connected, and I firmly told them we had just met on the flight. As we deplaned, she begged me to carry her handbag. Torn, I hesitated, but the gentleman emphatically signaled for me not to do it. He even passed me a note suggesting I let the crew handle her.

Feeling uneasy but following his advice, I left the plane, leaving her to wait for her wheelchair. Minutes later, chaos erupted. She had bolted from the wheelchair, trying to escape with her bags. The airport police quickly apprehended her.

To my shock, she began yelling, calling me her “daughter” and accusing me of abandoning her. That’s when I realized the truth—she was carrying drugs and trying to implicate me.

Thankfully, the gentleman stepped forward to confirm we were strangers. The police asked her to provide my full name, but she couldn’t because I had never shared it. My luggage was thoroughly searched and dusted for fingerprints, as was hers. No connection was found, and I was eventually cleared.

This experience taught me an invaluable lesson: never touch anyone’s luggage or belongings in-flight or at the airport, no matter how harmless the request seems. Your luggage is your responsibility, and theirs is theirs.

Now, if someone can’t manage their overhead compartment or needs assistance, I direct them to the cabin crew without hesitation. Call it cold, but it’s self-preservation.

Takeaway for Travelers: Be kind, but always cautious—your life could depend on it.

Note:( This is copy pasted the woman in the photo is my mom who often travel with me and she is not related to the story )...✌️😘

FYI for those traveling to manila via CebPac and will be using Grab.

There’s a new Grab pick-up point at NAIA Terminal 3.

From the baggage exit, turn right and walk past Burger King—about an 80-100 meter walk. You’ll find a multilevel parking area with numbered slots from A1 to A20, where you can wait. Just tell your driver which number you’re waiting at.

A more convenient option compared to waiting at the bays outside! 😊

An airport made of WOOD wins the Best International Airport of the year award.

Clark International Airport (CRK) continues its winning streak, earning the title of International Airport of the Year – Philippines at the prestigious 2024 TDM Travel Trade Excellence Awards – Asia.

Together with Hong Kong’s International Design Associates (IDA), Megawide pioneered the use of Glued-Laminated Timber or “Glulam” technology in the Philippines.

IDA’s Principal Architect for CRK Winston Shu revealed that the airport’s roof is probably the “largest single roof built of GluLam in the world.”

Rubner Holzbau, a timber engineering expert firm based in Austria, supplied the glulam trusses or the wood portion of the roof, the wavy design of which is inspired by the Zambales mountain range.

The 47,800 sq.m aluminum alloy roofing was imported from Italy.

"As the next premier gateway to Asia, Clark International Airport should be designed and constructed only by the best in the world," BCDA President and CEO Vivencio Dizon said.

The Clark International Airport (CRK)—one of the country’s newest and most modern global gateways—also earned the World Architecture and Design Award or “Prix Versailles” of the UNESCO for being “one of the most beautiful airports in the world.”

Architects: Winston Shu, Royal Pineda
Contractor: Megawide

With almost 400 Bagons made in Japan, there are four classes of services on this line. The following are:

1. Commuter Train is the basic commuter rail service and has the least priority. It stops at all stations within its route. There are three routes planned for this class; Tutuban–New Clark City, Tutuban–Calamba, and Clark International Airport–Calamba. The maximum speed for this service will be 120 kilometers per hour (75 miles per hour) for the entire line.

2. Commuter Express is the limited-stop service for the line, succeeding the Commex service during the Metrotren era in the early 2000s. Although it will run faster than regular commuter trains, it will still use the same routes and rolling stock.

3. The Airport Limited Express is the temporary designation for the planned airport rail link and limited express service between Clark International Airport and Alabang station. As the flagship NSCR service, it will use dedicated rolling stock complete with intercity-grade amenities plus baggage space for people arriving from the airport. It will have a maximum speed of 160 kilometers per hour (100 miles per hour) along the NSCR North. As of January 2022, the final name for the service is yet to be determined.

4. Subway through-service is the proposed augmentation between the NSCR and the Metro Manila Subway. It will serve the southernmost areas of Metro Manila and neighboring Laguna, branching from the subway line at FTI station while the remainder of the line will go towards the direction of NAIA Terminal 3 in Pasay. It will use the Subway trainsets instead of the NSCR ones, although both are from the sustina family.
