๐ Casa Gorordo Museum:
Had visited the place years ago and since its re-opening, they have updated a few of their exhibit and the major change was the house's colorful facade.
You can tour on your own or request a guided in-house guide - i choose the later, with an additional charge, but worth it, you will not mind the additional cost as you will learn a lot.
The tour starts on the first floor, with a brief history about the house. Here shows Cebu's farming culture, with machines used by Cebuanos like the Wooden Bean Grinder, Stone Corn Miller, among others. It also features religioius statues known as Pasos, that portray the importance in Catholicism. Another are replicas showcasing Cebuanos way of transportation - from animal-drawn carriages to sedan and cadillac.
One can tell how influential and rich the family was, as an example when on the 2nd floor the area divided into two salas - for formal meetings and for personal more private meet ups. A suitor's corner, a Chapel, bedrooms, recreational area, library. The Gorordos were known for keeping many expensive utensils and one - is the Geisha cups. These teacup has a carving shape like Geisha, which you can see when you place them in front of the light. And the final tour is the Azotea - a large balcony, this area is used for large gathering and for laundry.
๐ The USC Museum:
Finally, visited the University of San Carlos Museum, heard about the museum but never had a chance to visit the museum. It is located in USC main campus. Friendly and helpful staff.
The USC museum known for its antropological and archeological exhibit.
๐ 1730 Jesuit House:
The Jesuit House may not look like a museum, because fronting the museum there are metals or welding materials, it is a hardware own by Filipino-Chinese, whose intention is to build a warehouse, but changed his mind upon learning about the history and the significance of the building/house.
Since we can't go back in time, a glimpse to 1730 Jesuit Museum is a must.
๐ The Art Diocesan Museum of Cebu:
As a predominantly a Catholic country, this museum has a collection of exhibits related to the Catholic faith giving the visitor a walk down memory lane and to learn how religion has shape the country's culture.
Most objects on displays dated back to Spanish Colonization. Easy to access as it is just across the Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral. Learn more about Catholicism visit The Art Diocesan Museum of Cebu.
๐ The Qube Gallery:
For years Qube Gallery has been the vent for artists from Cebu or the Visayas area. Organizers advocated the works on undiscovered artists from Cebu. They not only showcase paintings but also Cebu arts & crafts.
For this week until May 21, 2024 featuring two young artists from University of the Philippines - Cebu.
An excerpt: โXOXO,โ is a form of endearment derived from Western texting culture which literally means โhugs and kissesโ. Here, it is used as a sign-off, an informal farewell written at the end of a message. โAs a young diarist who has grown to become the artist โPeony on Fireโ, the exhibition becomes a literary and visual conversation with the girl of a colorful past with that of my present โ the evolution of my identity, art, and my life.โ - Peony on Fire.
"And coming from a Visayan Filipino and Punjabi Indian heritage, biracial artist Amor Beah Singh explores a deeper understanding of her individuality through her exhibition, โHarmony in Heritage.โ These two distinct cultures have shaped the artist's perspective, presenting her unique heritage as a harmonious dance that captivates all who witness it."This is what the second artist features.
Art is one of the best forms of expression. Artists are able to tell a story and could draw out emotion from viewers without saying anything. A visit to Qube Gallery is a new learning experience.
