A rarely seen Omura’s whale was recently spotted in Pintuyan, Panaon Island! 🐳 🫨

Named in recognition of Japanese cetologist Hideo Omura and his remarkable research on whales, this species was officially identified only in 2003. These whales inhabit warm tropical and subtropical waters and don’t take long ocean trips like other whales. So, if they’re here… they’re probably sticking around! 🏡

As we work toward the declaration of the Panaon Island Protected Seascape, we’re also pushing for go-slow zones to protect whales and whale sharks from boat strikes and other disturbances. Let’s keep our ocean safe for these incredible creatures.! 🐋✨
