BI DEPORTS 187 ILLEGAL POGO WORKERS ARRESTED WITH PAOCC

PASAY, Philippines—The Bureau of Immigration (BI) has implemented the deportation of 187 Chinese nationals involved in illegal online gaming operations.

In a statement, BI Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado disclosed that the deportees boarded a Philippine Airlines flight to Shanghai, China, last December 5. The flight departed at noon from the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1.

“These individuals were found to have violated Philippine laws and immigration regulations. Their deportation serves as a clear message that illegal activities by foreign nationals will not be tolerated,” said Viado.

Initially, the BI was set to deport 190 Chinese nationals, but only 187 were boarded as one had a hold departure order and two had other pending cases in the Philippines.

The deportees were among those apprehended during operations conducted with Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission (PAOCC) in Pasay City and Cebu. Authorities reportedly uncovered their involvement in unauthorized Philippine Offshore Gaming Operations (POGO).

The BI also confirmed that the deportees have been added to the agency’s immigration blacklist. This meant that they will be permanently barred from re-entering the Philippines.

“This successful deportation highlights our strong stance against illegal activities of foreign nationals in the country,” said Viado. “We remain steadfast in our mission to ensure that foreign nationals abide by the terms of their stay and that our immigration laws are strictly enforced,” he added.

Viado reiterated that the BI will remain vigilant and committed to working closely with law enforcement agencies to uphold the country’s immigration policies and protect national security.
