TOURISM | ‼️WARNING‼️

The Municipal Tourism Office is issuing a strong warning to all those traveling by sea from El Nido to Coron/Linapacan (and vice versa).

Ferries are generally safe and licensed to operate, but some expedition boats and motorized bangkas are not licensed to operate on the open seas.

This time of year, the Philippines experiences a strong seasonal Northeast monsoon known as the Amihan. Surges in the Amihan winds can result in very severe sea conditions. Boats that illegally operate during this time of year are especially risky and dangerous, as they are unlicensed and often not compliant with safety protocols.

There are several ongoing investigations to shut down these operations.

When organizing and making your maritime transportation reservations, exercise extreme caution and diligence.
* Please transact only with legitimate companies legally operating licensed vessels.
* Be wary of boats departing from remote beaches without first visiting the Philippine Coast Guard. Most licensed boats depart from our ports in Corong Corong and downtown El Nido, and get a Coast Guard clearance before they depart.
* Before making payments, verify permits and licenses of the travel agency, tour operator or booking office to assure legality.
* Finally, always ask for official receipts once payments are made.

The Municipal Tourism Office is open daily from 7 AM to 7 PM to answer tourist queries and assist guests in transacting only with legitimate companies.
