HAPPENING NOW Community Based Tourism Culinary Workshop

The Provincial Government of Northern Samar through the Provincial Tourism Office will be conducting a 3-day Community Based Tourism Culinary Workshop from August 7-9, 2024 for community members to enable them to professionally prepare and handle food and contribute to capability building initiatives and spread the benefit of tourism level. Also to showcase Filipino cuisine and local dishes, to learn basic food handling techniques, gain knowledge and how to manage and conduct business in catering related operations.

A total of 35 participants from the Pacific towns of Lapinig, Gamay, Mapanas and Palapag have the best opportunity to learn from an expert chef in the person of Mr. Mark Reynan Campado Sabayan, MM, CGSP, CHMP and a DOT Accredited Tourism Culinary Trainer.

According to Mr. Sabayan, Culinary tourism and gastronomics go hand in hand, as they both seek to explore and celebrate the diversity of food cultures around the world. By participating in culinary tourism, travelers cannot only taste delicious dishes, but also learn about the stories and traditions behind them, and gain a deeper appreciation for the culinary heritage of a place.

He emphasized during the first session on the importance of basic food safety to prevent food contamination concerns that can cause health issues.

On the second day, the topic will deal with Basic Culinary Mathematics (Recipe Calculation and Calculating Costs and Menu Pricing). The last day of the training will focus on Basic Cooking Methodologies. Participants are expected afterwards to prepare at least 3 different local heritage dishes.

Ms. Brenda Morales, Tourism Officer II greeted all attendees, while Chief Tourism Operations Officer Ms. Ma. Josette G. Doctor delivered a message of encouragement, urging participants to actively engage in the 3-day training. Ms. Jhonna Troncoso acted as facilitator and emcee for the event.

LOOK || Agri-Tourism Trade Fair: Showcasing the Province's Abundant Agricultural Produce and Creativity

Presenting a diverse array of agri-fishery products and handicrafts, the Agri-Tourism Trade Fair, organized by the Provincial Government, commenced today, June 3, 2024 at the Capitol Grounds. The event is one of the highlights of the 2nd Ibabao Festival 2024, in celebration of the 59th Founding Anniversary of the Province.

The program is designed to assist local farmers in promoting their goods by providing them with a platform for display to fortify the agricultural and agri-fishery sectors while fostering tourism in the province.

Beyond the mere display of agricultural products, the Agri-Tourism Trade Fair serves as a canvas for the creativity of Nortehanons.

In the backdrop of local products are artistically created booths of all 24 Local Government Units comprising Northern Samar, reflecting the rich culture and heritage of the province

Under the leadership of Governor Edwin Ongchuan, the Provincial Government underscores the vital role of agriculture, tourism and trade as key contributors to economic growth.

MOBILE MUSEUM BOXES (MMB) of the National Museum Philippines (NMP) makes its way to Northern Samar!

The Mobile Museum Boxes is a travelling exhibition that tells how rich the natural history of the Visayas region is in 12 mobile boxes. Each box will bring us closer to the unique geological and biological diversity of Visayan Island.

This exhibition in Northern Samar is organized by the Provincial Government of Northern Samar (PGNS) in partnership with the National Museum of the Philippines (NMP).

In 2019, NMP has closely worked with the Western Visayas Associations of Museums, Inc. (WVAMI), and the Forest Foundation Philippines (FFP) to educate Filipinos about the rich natural heritage and the role we play in protecting and conserving it.

Bring your family and friends, learn more about the oldest rocks in the region, the birds in the Visayan landscape, and a rare plant that was thought to be gone forever, then don't miss the chance to visit the Mobile Museum Boxes on May 22, 2024 at the Provincial Capitol, Brgy.
