We are thrilled to announce that the Municipality of Gamay Tourism Development Plan 2025–2031 has been officially approved by the Municipal Development Council earlier today! This marks a significant milestone in our efforts to boost local tourism, create sustainable growth, and showcase the beauty and culture of Gamay to the world.

In accordance with the National Tourism Development Plan (NTDP) and after thorough consultations and coordination with tourism stakeholders by the Technical Working Group, the Municipal Tourism Office has outlined the following seven key objectives of the plan: 1. Improve Tourism Infrastructure and Accessibility; 2. Enhance Planning and Development; 3. Advance Product Development; 4. Strengthen Marketing and Promotions; 5. Promote Heritage Conservation and Development; 6. Enrich Culture and the Arts; 7. Empower Local Tourism Stakeholders.

With this plan in place, we look forward to enhancing our tourism infrastructure, preserving our natural wonders, and providing exciting opportunities for both visitors and locals alike.

Today marks a significant milestone for the local government unit of Gamay as it proudly received the most coveted Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG), today, December 9, 2024 at the Manila Hotel. This prestigious recognition is awarded by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), highlights the LGU's outstanding performance in governance, financial administration, transparency, social protection, and environmental management.

The SGLG, signifies an LGU’s adherence to good governance and principle performance standards across governance areas including:
1. Financial Administration and Sustainability;
2. Disaster Preparedness;
3. Social Protection and Sensitivity;
4. Health Compliance and Responsiveness;
5. Sustainable Education;
6. Business-Friendliness and Competitiveness;

The Provincial Tourism Office and the Association of Tourism Officers of Northern Samar (ATONS) proudly celebrated World Tourism Day 2024 with a "Familiarization Tour of Northern Samar Tour Circuits" from September 24-26. The tour explored key tourism sites across the province, visiting Biri, Lavezares, Silvino Lubos, Palapag, Mapanas, Gamay, and Lapinig.

This 3-day event aimed to deepen the knowledge of Tourism Officers about these sites while exchanging ideas on how to further develop and enhance their own local attractions. The Familiarization Tour encouraged officers to gather new ideas and approaches for enhancing tourism in their municipalities, ultimately strengthening the province's tourism prospects.

This event highlights the ongoing efforts to strengthen Northern Samar’s tourism landscape through learning, exploration, and innovation.

HAPPENING NOW Community Based Tourism Culinary Workshop

The Provincial Government of Northern Samar through the Provincial Tourism Office will be conducting a 3-day Community Based Tourism Culinary Workshop from August 7-9, 2024 for community members to enable them to professionally prepare and handle food and contribute to capability building initiatives and spread the benefit of tourism level. Also to showcase Filipino cuisine and local dishes, to learn basic food handling techniques, gain knowledge and how to manage and conduct business in catering related operations.

A total of 35 participants from the Pacific towns of Lapinig, Gamay, Mapanas and Palapag have the best opportunity to learn from an expert chef in the person of Mr. Mark Reynan Campado Sabayan, MM, CGSP, CHMP and a DOT Accredited Tourism Culinary Trainer.

According to Mr. Sabayan, Culinary tourism and gastronomics go hand in hand, as they both seek to explore and celebrate the diversity of food cultures around the world. By participating in culinary tourism, travelers cannot only taste delicious dishes, but also learn about the stories and traditions behind them, and gain a deeper appreciation for the culinary heritage of a place.

He emphasized during the first session on the importance of basic food safety to prevent food contamination concerns that can cause health issues.

On the second day, the topic will deal with Basic Culinary Mathematics (Recipe Calculation and Calculating Costs and Menu Pricing). The last day of the training will focus on Basic Cooking Methodologies. Participants are expected afterwards to prepare at least 3 different local heritage dishes.

Ms. Brenda Morales, Tourism Officer II greeted all attendees, while Chief Tourism Operations Officer Ms. Ma. Josette G. Doctor delivered a message of encouragement, urging participants to actively engage in the 3-day training. Ms. Jhonna Troncoso acted as facilitator and emcee for the event.

IN PHOTOS: The Philippine Coast Guard Maritime Safety Service Unit - Eastern Visayas in coordination with the Office of the Municipal Mayor through the Tourism Operations Office conducted the Recreational Safety Enforcement Inspection and Information Drive at Araw Beach, Brgy. San Antonio, Gamay, Northern Samar today to ensure the compliance to maritime safety of the beach resorts in Gamay.
