MABUHAY!
"“CONGRATULATIONS TO OMEGA DE SALONERA FOR BEING HAILED AS CHAMPION IN THE DAEGU POWERFUL FESTIVAL 2023 IN SOUTH KOREA (INTERNATIONAL CATEGORY).”
It was with great pride and honor that the Omega de Salonera (ODS) of Kapihan, Bucas Grande Island, Province of Surigao del Norte, and the three (3) other Filipino groups, namely the Kabkaban Festival of Carcar, Cebu, the Sinulog Festival of Bohol, and the Bailes de Luces of La Castellana, left the country to compete for the 2023 Powerful Daegu Festival in South Korea last May 12–15, 2023. The said event has a total of eighty (80) teams that will compete in both local and international categories. Finally, our Saloneras on the international stage dream started, and we absolutely bannered the Philippine Flag throughout the globe!
Omega de Salonera is a cultural group composed of multi-talented dancers, singers, and instrumentalists. It is a modified version of an old cultural show known as "Salon", and its dancers were called "Salonera". The revival of this almost century-old show is the vision of Senior Agila who strongly believes revisiting the past is the bridge to reaching the future.
Today, their siblings were organized to revive that almost century-old cultural heritage, carrying a new name, “Omega de Salonera” which simply means “Last Generation of Dancers,” or in vernacular, “katapusang kaliwatan sa mga sumayajaw” believing that this group of dancers could be the last to revive such a cultural heritage.
Recently, Omega de Salonera's remarkable performance earned them the title of Grand Champion at the Daegu Powerful Festival. They amazed the crowd with their Eskrima or Kali Arnis which was an integrated presentation of Sinulog. To emphasize, Arnis is the national martial art sport of the Philippines and became so popular during its early days that it was known as the sport of kings and members of the royal blood. The first and foremost experts in the art were the Rajahs and Maharlikas. While the Sinulog dance is considered the biggest and grandest festival in the Philippines, it happens every third Sunday of January in Cebu City, Philippines.
To look back, the group was first recognized as champions during the 38th Bonok-Bonok Maradjaw Karadjaw Festival here in the Province of Surigao del Norte on September 9, 2022, during the Annual Fiesta Town of Surigao City. Thereafter, the Omega de Salonera again showed exceptional performance in Cebu Sinulog 2023, where they were hailed as the Grand Champion in the Free Interpretation Category, the Grand Prize Winner in the Streetdancing Competition, the Best Costume Winner, and second (2nd) place in Best Musicality.
THEREFORE, THE OMEGA DE SALONERAS ARE TRULY AN INSPIRATION AND A GREAT PRIDE OF THE PROVINCE OF SURIGAO DEL NORTE FOR BRINGING HOME THE BACON!
AS CHAIRMAN OF THE COMMITTEE ON TOURISM, CULTURE, AND THE ARTS, it is my greatest appreciation and gratitude to the founder of Omega de Salonera, Senior Agila Atty. Rico Tautho, the mentor Sir Ricky Ballesteros, SBSI Officials, and the rest of the team, and to the people behind their every success, for always pushing and making Saloneras believe that dreams do come true with God as their bedrock.
THANK YOU FOR MAKING THE PHILIPPINES PROUD, ESPECIALLY THE ENTIRE ISLAND OF SIARGAO AND BUCAS GRANDE."
